I know exactly what creature this is. You would know as well, if you would search trough the Shimmermist Cave.

Edit: Might have been a bug, but Companions once sent my level 6 character there. Only thing I could think was f*** my life.

@Ref, Ahhh yes, I've cleared the cave before, its a Falmer, but I didn't think it would be a Falmer, turns out it was.

More importantly, what are the falmer doing outside the cave that attracted the guard's notice? Probably stole his ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sweetroll.

@hedgie_yozh - Yes, I was thinking the exact same thing! Perhaps the guards see stuff that we don't =/

Falmer/Chaurus.

It's Gollum!

Well, the reason you get sent to Shimmermist Cave is because they've been 'bothering' local residents (or occasionally have kidnapped one...), so presumably they do leave sometimes (we just never see it...)

They did with me also. I'm very sorry I did, but I then used god mode because I couldn't get past them. I could have easily beaten them if I tried now, but back then I was so weak and it was really frustrating to die everytime. But back on topic, it is indeed a Falmer.

Curiously, what difficulty level were you when they sent you on that little adventure? I once did a playthrough on Expert, and Farkas freaking sent me there at some ridiculously low level. BARELY made it out alive. Used up all my potions and wanted to kill Farkas when I got back. The rest of the Companions questline after that was a joke. Lol, Vilkas also tends to serve you your a** if you train with him at levels higher than expert. If I'm not heavily armed, I'm in big trouble. For my mages, I turn down the difficulty, so I'm not spending an hour training with Vilkas watching myself die. That being said, kill moves for battleaxes are pretty cool looking.

I usually play on master. I looked trough my quests, and I couldn't have been more then around level 6 or 7.

What the guard was refering to was a Falmer. The once great Snow Elves of Skyrim, on par with the High Elves and Wood Elves, who ate mushrooms in their time of need to be in servitude of the Dwemer. These poisonous mushrooms in the long term rendered them blind and degenerated, but with their senses of smell, touch and hearing better than most other races.

I actually just got around to completing the Shimmerset Cave quest about the myterious creature that was attacking Whiterun at night.
Yeah, it's a Falmer hiding out in Shimmerset Cave and terrorizing Whiterun at night.
