Is it safe to buy a house in Riften?
I'm skeptical for two reasons:

1.- I don't have a Housecarl for Riften. Or a wife that could stay there, reason i'm saying this is because I heard that if you don't have anyone in your house, there could be robbers who come in and take my stuff. And the whole point of me having a house in Riften is because my house in Whiterun is cluttered, full and I can't find stuff anymore, since all chests and storing objects have 100+ items already.

2.- IT'S RIFTEN. Home of the thieves, and nothing asks more ''STEAL FROM ME'' than storing all your valuables in such a place. This also goes back to my housecarl thing I was talking about, if there's no one inside, people could go in and steal (regardless of it being Riften or not)

Thanks!

Also, i'm an Imperial, and Riften is Stormcloack territory :S

Yes, your stuff is safe in your home in riften. Unless you have a mod that allows for home invasion. (Actually I think that Honeyside is technically flagged incorrectly as an inn or something, but I have never had anyone break in there.)

yay Imperials!

If you have Hearthfire DLC or a mod, then yeah, you'll randomly deal with roobers,.....(sigh!) Robbers! If not, no worries.

Become Thane of Riften and you'll recieve a housecarl for Honeyside. honeyside is one of my favorite in-game homes to buy for the simple reason you can escape through your back door.

Doesn't the Hearthfire DLC only add burglaries to the constructed homes, though? I have never seen it affect a vanilla home.

1 - You don't need a housecarl to own a home in Riften. If you want to be thane, you have to solve the skooma problem in Riften. It starts with Wujeeta at the Riften Fisheries.

2 - lol, you even get a special Thieves Guild barrel cache in your garden. No worries.

@hedgie_yozh, you are correct

The Peace Treaty can turn Riften into an Imperial Town

I have had those hired thugs come into my home in Riften during one playthrough. Coincidently that was before I had the Housecarl. The battle left the house a total mess. I put the bodies in the Housecarl's bedroom.
