How do I play at 1080p on a 1200p monitor with no stretch (with black bars)
Hi there, could anyone let me know how I can force the game to play at 1080p without stretching out out on my 1200p monitor? There's no option to do it in the settings, its stretches automatically..

Thanks in advance!

The only way the picture is "stretched" on my 1200p monitor is if borderless fullscreen is turned off, if its on then 1080p resolution will show black bars top and bottom. Not sure why you'd want to play it at 1080p on a 1200p monitor anyhow, why not play it at 1200p?

I think Skyrim "zooms" in in 16:10 versus 16:9. 16:9 you see more on the sides.
Google for skyrim widescreen

No it doesn't, you just see more top and bottom in 1200p rather than black bars if in 1080p resolution on a 1200p monitor. The 1920 detail in width remains the same in 1080p as in 1200p.

Sorry, no. You should have googled like I said, because then you had read that Skyrim use what is called horizontal plus (Hor+) technique. That means vertical field of view is locked (what you see from top to bottom). No matter which aspect ratio you always see the same cut, as result you see actually less on a 1920x1200 versus a 1920x1080 display if you play in native resolution. Because 1920x1200 = 16:10 = 1.6 versus 1920x1080 = 16:9 = 1.777.

Test it for yourself. Save the game. Make a screenshot, exit the game switch aspect ration to whatever you weren't using before, load the same save and make an other screenshot. The screenshot with 16:9 aspect will show left and right more. That why I said with 16:10 it's looks a bit like you zoomed in.
Or just save the work and check these two screenshots I linked from the guys at widescreen gaming.

Most FPS game use Hor+ and that is why I usually play mulitplayer in a window using a 16:9 resolution to avoid situations where someone see me before I can see them.
What you mean is pixel based where the FOV is dynamic based on your resolution, like most RTS tend to use.

Thanks for all the help guys. I finally figured out how to get my computer actually recognize the monitor as 1200p, which is nice. I can play now at 1200p in skyrim. But indeed it does cut off the edges when I test between stretched 1080p and native 1200p. This is why I would like to play with black bars, so I have better peripherals in game... Anyway I would welcome any advice on how to play with a strict aspect ration at 1080p.

Thanks!

Check if your Monitor has Pixel mapping. so it scales on a 1:1 ratio. By doing that you should get black bars at the top and bottom on any game when playing on 1080p on a 1200p monitor. My monitor had it after you press menu, and then image. I changed a setting called Aspect Control from full to 1:1.

I know this answer is late, but I figure there is no answer in this thread, so I should provide one for the other people in need.

Don't know if it will work for a 1200p screen, but try this.

Yeah, 1920 by 1200 would not appear stretched. Perhaps a mismatch between native/desktop/in-game resolution? Easiest. for testing is to set all 3 the same. Works best and what the devs worked with. After that, experiment and Google.

You need to set the scaling to "not scale" and also set it to scale on the GPU rather than the monitor. Then you will get black borders instead of the stretch. I also have a superior 1200p monitor

Thank you, that worked for me!
