Enchanted Weapons Draining Too Fast
I enchanted a legendary glass bow I smithed with soultrap and paralyze, 1 second each, resulting in approximately 1400 charges for both.

Before I know it, it's completely drained.

What.

The.

F*#k.

So I reload a save, and yeah, after maybe 40 shots it's already half gone.

Wanna hear a better one? I started using bound sword, and it's depleting my real sword's enchantment (legendary glass sword with mana drain + mana steal, about 70 charges). Yeah, I didn't even touch my glass sword, and the first time I use it since making it, it's completely depleted

WTF

I never had this issue before. I had a bow enchanted with soul trap and like 300 charges, and I've used that since I first made it, over 200 game hours. What the hell is this??!! Is double weapon enchanting completely bugged to hell? I've been working the entire game just to get that f#%%ing perk.

What soul gem are you using?

Do you by any chance have certain weapon mods installed? What are they? (just have to eliminate the possiblity of dodgy mod installation bugging your game)

I'm using the Black Star filled with grand soul
Also I don't have any weapon mods installed.

Certain Weapons drain faster

It depends on the the spell/enchantments you install on it. And how large a gem is used increases the power or in some cases lenghth of time the spell is active. Flame for example is less powerful than Paralyze, so paralyze will deplete faster. 2 powerful spells will deplete even faster. The other effects, I agree with Dan, any new mods since you made the glass sword.

It also depends on your enchanting level, the higher the level the more charges you get, Enchanter's Elixir gives you 25% better enchantments on top.

Welp, found out what was happening. The sword with the enchantments was different from the sword in the hotkey group, the former of which was drained. Just had a derp moment lol

Also, yeah, I guess minimum level paralyze is just so much more powerful than soultrap that it drains the bow a whole lot faster. Good to know all about the other skills that can buff it though.

Enchanting a bow with Paralyze always sucks up the juice! That is a very expensive toy you are playing with. Your comment sounds like someone in a Lambourghini squawking about the price of gasoline.

I have the exact same problems and every now and then I make a point of hunting with my soul-snatching bow to charge up some of those nifty gems I'm hauling around. It's also why I use poison instead for the majority of my work.

The game isn't broken or buggy, it's deliberately made that way to keep you from racing to and fro paralyzing everything in sight.

A smarter question might be, "How can I reduce the brutal cost of using my fine, glass bow"?

My characters typically carry several bows for specific uses. I also don't hunt bunny rabbits with Daedric arrows.

**Edit**

NOPE

Still have the issue of the enchanted sword losing it's charge without being used. The unnamed glass sword was just a red herring. Looks like the only option is to go back to pre-mod save. F*($

well i dojt know about your mod issue, but charges dont mean nuzmber of swings you can have with enchantment, it means soul charges. An enchantment can use 50 chargesper swing or something.

rip

weapons don't lose charge when they're not being used. Doesn't happen.

something else is going on
Jane Doe Mar 11, 2014 @ 5:31pm
Lol "doesn't happen"

I narrowed it down to the save/load process, every time my game was loaded it drained my weapon regardless of doing anything else. Only the one specific weapon though.
Managed to fix it by pure luck, still can't say how or why, just crossing my fingers that it's gone for good.

It's the double enchantment sucking down the juice.

Basically ^ this. I double enchanted a deadric sword to absorb health and stamina and maybe got 25 to 30 hits out of it.

However, given how a lot of the vanilla forge recipes were off and had to be fixed by modders, I wouldn't doubt the twin enchantment perk has bad math at its core as well. You might look around on Nexus for a mod if you're unhappy with the results.

Yeah, the bow has a couple a high-level enchantments, but it's still managable.
The sword is the one with issues, as stated above, it was draining completely without being used, though I managed to get rid of the glitch for the moment.

hey, so... my game is heavily modded [S.PERG and GIST def apply in this discussion] but i noticed this issue before i began modding as well, so... i'd like to suggest that modding is not exactly the issue here.

it seems as though Soul Trap on bows and daggers (1 sec to trap for max charges) was working as expected for a while, ie: in the lvl 20s, you charge up the weapon and it lasts a good long while. but now, as i get higher in level (lower mid 30s), the charges just magically disappear - and NOT from usage. background infos: i only use Grand Soul Gems to cast the enchant, i only use full Soul Gems to recharge. from the description in the UI when i made the enchant, i was expecting the bow to have ~1.5k charges at full charge

here is an example of the issue:
1. i charge up my new glass bow to ~1/3 full before leaving Riverwood for my first hike to Ivarstaed
2. soon out of Riverwood, i see a fox and kill it. Soul Trap works and there is no noticeable drop in charge meter on the bow
3. a few hundred yards up from the first kill i spot a rabbit and kill it. Soul Trap works and there is no noticeable drop in the charge meter on the bow
4. at a crossroads i run into a hunter with his dog and buy a pelt from him and sell him some meat
5. i come up on Helgen, which i'd cleared before on my way to get Nettlebane. i check briefly around for respawns. none.
6. past Helgen, i notice a Stormcloak base and drift off the main road to discover it and have a brief chat with the guy in charge
7. i move on east and up the mountain towards Ivarstead and run into another hunter and buy another pelt.

at this point, i decide to check in on my weapon's charge again for a save before i crest the hill.... the weapon has NO charge at all.

the weapon went from ~1/3 charged to empty - without being used.

8. the next mob i encountered i one-shot and nothing (with available Soul Gems in inventory). test confirms the charge is gone.

if anyone has any info, leads, insight - i'd love to know wtf is going on. while my example focuses on bows, the same dynamic applies to daggers as well. thanks in advance.
