Best race lore wise?
I'm gonna start a new hero without cheats, but i will mod the hell out of it. And i was wondering what race is the most epic lore wise? I think i want to be an assassin (two daggers).

Also male or female?

When you start the game, you get out of the wagon as a prisoner, the guard calls you forward and asks you WHO ARE YOU, then the camera turns to you, WHAT RACE ARE YOU before you start making changes YOU are a male NORD= Skyrim is about the NORDS.

If you want the race to make a bit more of a difference, you might want to try a mod like character creation overhaul, it also puts classes and birthsigns in (I think some of it's optional) so you can end up starting with 25-30 in some skills and 5 in others - makes quite a difference, IME!

Or male NORDS are the boring default choice :p

I think a Nord is the most lore unfriendly race actually. What you got caught at the border of your own country and they are trying to execute you for being in it? Yeah sure. Somewhat they don't do that to all the nords that live in the wilds!

On that note, Imperial is probably a bad choice too, given that the soldiers who try to execute you are all Imperials and they don't feel like checking back if you aren't with the army or anything. It is likely not a high elf, again they'd be too scared to execute a potential Thalmor. That'd mean war. Then there are the Dunmer, and those guys live in Morrowind and Solstheim, why would they cross the border at the south of Skyrim? And they could be from a royal house too- not wise just sending them to the headman. Well it's possible but less likely. With that I would say it must be one of the more despised races, ones someone would assume are thieves crossing a border- Argonians, Khajit or perhaps even Wood Elves. all of them live to the south of Skyrim, so being caught near Helgen- at the south- is most possible. Orcs or Bretons are an option too, but I somewhat don't feel it, Orcs tend to stick to tribes only and IF one was alone he'd die fighting than let himself be caught and killed so shamefully, and Bretons there aren't so many in Skyrim, also they are too human a race to be killed so. Redguards are rare in Skyrim, there is but a handful really but for the ones that stick to groups looking for the redguard woman, so again doubt it.

With all that in mind, I believe our culprit and main hero is most likely a wood elf, a bosmer.
-He'd be assumed to be part of no major power.
-Imperials wouldn't care to execute him.
-He'd be coming from the south, most likely after visiting Cyrodil and the Imperial city first.
-Unlike an Orc he'd be likely to let himself be taken rather than fight back
-Unlike Argonians or Khajit- He'd be bad at sneaking and avoiding humans.
-They are impartial so can join either the Imperials or the Stormcloaks.
-They look just suspicious enough and are so secretive a race that explaining why he's in Skyrim wouldn't be easy. They aren't typically merchants or pylgrims so...

Ofc that's just probability. And male or female tough to say... I see no reason why it'd be a male or why it'd be a female.

You got caught at the border because you were at the wrong place, at the wrong time, when the imperials ambushed Ulfric. Just like the horsethief Lokir in the start of the game. I think they explained that part pretty well. Heck, if you are anything BUT a Nord, why would they suspect you of working with the stormcloaks?

If anything they are the most "logical" race choice, since it would seem a bit weird to be an elf and being able to follow the stormcloaks, no questions asked. On the other hand, following that imperial guard willingly as a prisoner when you have your chance to escape after they just wanted to execute you... doesn't quite make sense either imho. But following that imperial guard seems illogical to me no matter what race you are.

As for dark elves, yes their homeland is in Morrowind, but some of them live outside of morrowind as well. Have you forgotten how the NPCs would never fail to remember you that you were an "outlander" even if you chose to play as a dark elf? So it isn't weird at all to see any race trying to pass the southern border of skyrim (aside from there being a civil war going on, which usually isn't that great for the tourism)

since the forming of nirn elves have always been the strongest and most advanced

I was giving probabilities, the likely outcome, yes there are Dunmer outside of Morrowind, but chances are if someone came from the South they are not a Dunmer, they are much more likely to be pretty much any other race, as let's assume majority of the Dunmer live in Morrowind and Solstheim.

Now so if you are a Nord, why are the Imperials who caught you with Ulfric so sorry for you? Why are they surprised you're not on their list? Why are they so eager to help you escape? Why do they let you join the imperial legion later? Would the Legion not be suspicious at all?

And dunno I can't remember that part on being caught WITH Ulfric. If so why are they so surprised they have to kill you? It very much sounds like they just happened to catch you, a traveler, while looking for Ulfric or on the way back to Helgen. If you are saying your character was right next to Ulfric having a pleasant chat then had an epic sword fight back to back with him against the Imperials prior to that cart ride, the whole beginning and being impartial loses sense. They must have caught the main character separately from Ulfric.

The best race *lore* wise? I'm not sure I understand the question. All of the races are integral to the lore. Imperials and orcs are the "newest" only because they weren't available for players in the first game. Otherwise they are all in the lore.

The most interesting races are Khajiit and Argonians, because they have such strange backgrounds. Race with the most lore backing it would have to be Dunmer, because of Morrowind. Race most appropriate to Skyrim would be Nord, except for Bretons in the Reach. But nothing is stopping you from playing anything. So play what you want to play.

Ah ♥♥♥♥. You just made me realise the OP is not asking for the most lore friendly race, hes asking for a race with an "epic" lore. In that case that's gotta be the Dunmer, hands down most interesting and complex lore of all.

No question - Imperial.
