What is the difference between heavy and light shields ?
So I'm planning to get the Spellbreaker shield but I learned that it gets considered as heavy.I use light armor so is it going to change anything if I start using the Spellbreaker.

It will just level up your heavy armour skill instead of your light armour skill. Of course if you use it to block it will also level up your shield skill. It also wont count towards some or any (havent looked at the light armour tree in a while) of those light armour bonuses you have.

Just double checked, It looks like it doesnt get affected by any skills except blocking, the classifacation of heavy armour is just there to look nice. The more you know :D

Where did you find that? Because the wiki says otherwise.

"The effectiveness of shields is governed by the Block skill and the corresponding armor type -- Light or Heavy."

I believe the *block* is only affected by the Block skill, but how much armor it gives is affected by the specific armor skill.

I was looking through mods trying to find him a suitable one and quite a few commenters mentioned that the type of shield doesnt actually matter. Ive heard stranger things when it came to skyrim so I just took it at face value. Sorry for jumping the gun earlier, I was in a hurry.

Well, that doesn't mean yo were wrong - the wiki can have mistakes in it.

That could simply be the because of the armor cap - as long as you have all the smithing perks, you can pretty much wear any armor and still reach the armor cap (think it is something like 560). So at a certain point, your armor won't protect you any more than it already does even if you increase the armor value further.

The amount of Armor is the only thing affected by the shield. That being said I cap out with my armor set with no shield or helmet (as such also no 'set' armor bonus perk).

If your not making uber enchanted/smithed gear then armor rate will matter (rigorous crafting process involving making gear to make potions to make gear to make potions, etc, etc).

If you are using Spellbreaker for the ward effect against Dragons, just use an actual ward. You may have to level up your magicka a bit but the greater ward can stop a dragon's breath easy.

Cool! I was actually wondering if you could use a shied to protect yourself against dragons as well, I mean I know your not totally invincible to hostile NPC's without a poison or even if your like superman in the scene that God mod is toggled on, if playing on PC but yeah I thought and still am thinking it doesn't matter what race you pick you'll end up taking the same amount of damage from them if you were impartial for example who are week against mana I think in other-words I don't they deflect attacks good unless you're character is a higher level then they're.
