To the OP - go into nVidia control panel, and make sure you add both Skyrim (TESV.exe) AND the launcher (SkyrimLauncher.exe) in the panel, and set both to the nVidia card.
found in the sam eplace as skyrimprefs
download the custom d3d9.dll creator, then create a dll and place it in your skyrim install folder
For Geforce cards, the performance tier is indicated by the second number; and ranges from a scale of 1 to 9. 1 being the worst, 9 being the best.
Thus: 7_10m vs 6_70m
710m is most likely suited for youtube and DVDs; it may have better performance than the Intel HD 4000; but probably not by much.

Thus, put settings and on low and hope for the best
Lastly, to prvent this situation in teh future; you need to tweak your nvidia Optimus settings; see your laptop manual
A GTX 670M is significantly more powerful than a GT 710M.
GTX 670M - Pixel Fillrate=14.35GP/s; Texture Fillrate=33.5GT/s
GT 710M - Pixel Fillrate=3.2 GP/s; Texture Fillrate=12.8GT/s
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Nvidia_graphics_processing_units
The GT 710M is effectively a rebranded GT 630M (both are GF117 at 800MHz with 2GB VRAM) which is really just an overclocked 500-series mobile chip (GF108) in a shrunk die.
So as you can see, saying your GTX 670M is better than an HD 4000 series GPU is irrelevant when discussing how well a GT 710M compares to an HD 4000 series GPU.
Unfortunately, since the HD 4000 series is a little vague (like saying a 700-series Nvidia GPU), we can't compare Intel's numbers to what I listed above.
Edit: Heh. I didn't see Shocks' comment till after I posted this.
That completely depends on the HD 4000 version you have (I believe there are 11 versions). Do you know which it is?
But I updated every single thing related to my card drivers. Although it only recognizes my HD 4000 Graphics the game runs smoothly as if only my radeon exists.
Skyrim on HD4000 on my rig runs like an absolute pig, even though it's an i7.
i have a similar problem: launcher correctly say i'm using Nvidia GeForce GT 740m but if i manually open SkyrimPrefs i see
--> sD3DDevice="Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000"
i tried following MikuCore's advice
then when i started the launcher it told me i'm using Intel HD Graphics, it automatically test for "high quality", however game run worse than original (worse than with my handmade config)...
where's the problem?
