Boethiah's Calling: Method without Sacrifice?
[POSSIBLE SPOILERS]

I want to do the quest Boethiah's Calling, but I found out that I have to lead a follower to the shrine and kill them. Is there any alternative method to complete the quest, without sacrificing one of my companions?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, there are many quests where you get a companion from them, often an idiot. "Unearthed" springs to mind, in Dragonborn - if you can restrain yourself from skewering the odious creep responsible for the whole debacle, meet him at Raven Rock and make him useful in honour of Boethiah!

Without using a mod, there is no "good guy" way that I know of to complete that Quest and remove it from your journal. Personally, I simply leave that Quest open in my journal. It serves as a reminder to trust my instincts. That thing was dodgy from the start. My character did more than he should have already, but drew the line before sacrificing a follower.

Yeah, I guess I can just leave it alone..

Ran into a similar thing, ShinsFortress, with the cannibalism quest. Apparently if you don't go all out aggressive on the woman in the Hall of the Dead, the quest assumes you want to help her, and makes her essential. -_-'

I met her at the place she wanted to meet me at, planned on killing her in front of the shrine as a sort of taunting gesture to the Daedric Prince she worshipped, but the game was all "no, that's an important NPC! Can't let her die", so I ended up just stealthing out and leaving the quest in my journal. Ugh.

Could probably use the console to get rid of the quest, I guess.

I usually 'sacrifice' the 500 coin to hire the poor sap from Candlehearth Hall if I'm going to do that one. Worse is the Ebony Blade... that takes some dedication.

Yeah, you kinda have to look for people who won't be missed for the Ebony Blade. Random farmers or miners, and so on. I mean, if you don't want to kill merchants or important NPCs.

CONSOLE COMMANDS FTW! I think there is a command that lets you set certain quests to a certain stage (the end in your case) then you just give yourself the deadric item like you bested the deadric lord in combat and earned it in a cry of mercy.

The only thing I could think of is hiring a mercenary and leading them to be sacrificed. Not exactly a good guy thing to do but if you're obeying a daedric god you can only be so morally good.

Nope. Just get Lydia or another annoying or useless person.
Pair it up with the ebony blade, and power up the blade while you complete the Boethiah quest. But someone has to die for the quest to advance.

I suppose my choice is to kill all the cultists. I hate morally incompletable quests... especially as a completionist. I wish they'd have built in an alternative quest line of eradicating the followers instead (also leading to fighting the champion).

That would be cool! As well as destroying the Dark Brotherhood leading to either saving or avenging the Emperor from Cicero, getting you Windshear as a reward.
