Wikia v. UESPWiki
I am one of those folks who constantly gets lost in dungeons and need a lot of help finding my way around. So I always use an online guide for RPGs. In this respect, I've been primarily relying on Wikia.

It turns out, however, alt-tabbing crashes Skyrim frequently, so I've decided to learn to use the Steam overlay - which does not crash. Unfortunately, Wikia floods you with ads on the Steam overlap browser, so I am looking for alternative sites. UESPWiki seems like a credible alternative, and I am wondering how reliable people think this site is compared to Wikia. In the old days, I also used Gamebanshee a lot, but that site kinda seems dead now, and it doesn't even have a Dragonborn guide.

Of course, any other site recommendation would be welcome.

I am relying mostly to UESPWiki, because it also gives notes about matters fixed in Unofficial Patches. Wikia is usually better source of lore and UESPWiki better to solve bugs.

Why not get the spell clairvoyance, it gives you a short distance pointer of where to go.

Ah, ok.

It's not just quest directions; I rely on online guides for a lot of things.

Also, as a dual wielder, it is really cumbersome to switch from spell mode to DW.

BTW. If ALT+TAB crashes your game, you can try hitting ESC first and ALT+TAB then. This has fixed the problem for some peoples in the past. I can't promise it works for you, because results seem to vary.

I've been doing this from day 1. It fixes the double cursor problem and reduces the frequency of crashes; but it does not completely eliminate crashes. (So instead of crashing every 2 alt-tabs, I ceash every 4-5.) Lots of folks seem to report the same experience.

For the double cursor bug:

As additional bonus, this mod also includes dynamic process priority for Skyrim.

Thanks; what's dynamic process priority? I am really un-versed with computers :)

Static priority processing reserves a certain amount of resources during schedule for program that is running. Programs with higher priority can gain more.

Dynamic processing releases and reserves resources, when the program needs them, according to priority in schedule. In this case Skyrim will gain higher priority than some other resource heavy background applications and gains higher priority for your computer resources.

Dynamic processing is usually considered as good thing for games, because background programs are often draining resources from them. It can be a bad thing for other types of programs, starving resources and preventing required background programs from running.

Skyrim is not so hungry that it would starve resources from any computer that meets the requirements. Thus having dynamic process priority just means that background programs cause less problems for it.

UESP should be able to cover all your needs, better than the wikia, and with less obnoxious ads.

Wikias in general are inferior to non-Wikia wikis, in my experience. Plus, the ads are horrible on Wikia pages.

Yeah, even outside of a game, those ads can cause Firefox to lag like crazy. And UESP loads quicker.

You may be interested in these mods that let you spellcast without changing weapons so you can still dual wield.

Oh, forgot to mention, but UESP also has links on the pages for ingame locations that when clicked on, opens a neat map that shows the location in relation to other locations in Skyrim.

Like if you go to the page http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Volunruud and click on "view on map", it opens up this: http://srmap.uesp.net/?centeron=Volunruud
