Is there a way to tell which skill books I've read?
So I don't go looking for them and waste time?

i take them all and store them at my house, then later in a playthrough i can check what i'm missing and hunt those books down specifically. Or make a note of the locations i found the book in, and come back for them later. So many pieces of paper with TES-related scrawls on...
EDIT: i think there is a mod for it on the Nexus

It's generally faster to earn a skill point "the hard way" than it is to search for a skill point.

You're better off just reading all books you don't recognise as you find them; take the occasional extra point as a bonus. You'll waste less time in general.

SkyUi marks which books or spellbooks , notes you've already read
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/3863/?

also its the best interface mod around .. its pretty much essential to have it installed it makes looting , inventory sorting a lot less tedious

and its less invasive than "Unread Books Glow"

it requires SKSE btw

The SkyUI method would still require you to go and look at the book to work out if you've read it or not, whereas with Unread Books you can just glance across a room. Maybe less 'immersive' or whatever but certainly more efficient.

Idk about that because i installed it at begining of my playthroughs not in mid game but still books dont weight much and just quick glance at each book through your inventory and violla that type of book is pernamently marked as "already read" so whenever you loot another one same book in the world you will know that you already read it

with SkyUi's item sorting its not troublesome at all
and like i said it dosent inject any unwanted effects into your game

SkyUi is much more worth for what it has to offer and its pretty lightweight

Hmmm, even better. I already have SkyUI, and I didn't know I could do this. But I don't see the functionality?

a small "eye" icon that looks the same like your detection meter next to the book icon in your inventory that means that book was already read

One of the 'problems' I have is I can't pick up a book without re-binding the keys. So I can't just grab whatever books are around and check later without setting/re-setting the keys. It's annoying enough when it's a book/note that has to be looted to progress a quest.

I find that changing my keys doesn't change the key the game tells me to press to pick up books, but does change the actual key that is used. Try expermenting between R/F/E/Space while a book is open, one of them's bound to do it.
