Daedric sword wouldn't be so good in real life?
So, I saw this video...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVrQqxkv1uA

So, spikes are good in arrows because they would then get stuck in the body of the target. But with swords it's another story. You would'nt want a sword which you can't pull back out because swords are meant to be reusable.

I know that some of you are going to say that "hey it's a game, leave it out of this" - I know and you're right, but I found the subject interesting so I thought I'd share.

My Grosse Messer (big knife) is about 4.5 pounds, a bit on the heavy side for a practical sword.

I have to chuckle when folks I know swear up and down that real swords weighed 40 to 50 pounds. Us folks today are just too wimpy, haha. I can't imagine swinging a 4.5 pound sword all day, let alone a 40 pound monster. The folks of those times would not use such a heavy weapon either.

You've got a damn good point there, ringtau. I've got a 3.5 lb scimitar laying five feet away from me. I can't imagine using that thing for more than about twenty, thirty minutes before my arm just dies.

Well, I say that, but I mean 'ten minutes, and then I switch to my left arm and spend the next ten minutes trying not to kill myself via muscle memory.'

An example of why, when the Romans remembered to be disciplined enough to rotate their troops out of the front of the line every couple of minutes, they tended to win their battles...

Let's take a poll. How many of us have a real batte ready sword? And why?

I do, because I am a lost soul. I have read too much off the norm Philosophy like Musashi, Sun Tzu, Machivelli, etc.

I do; I am, to be frank, obsessed with antiquity and the medieval era. It fascinates me, so I went out and bought a sword one day, and I'm roping a friend into helping me make a suit of armor as well.

Broadswords, 3 short swords, Claymore, assorted daggers, wooden ones, pvc, steel, and iron. Edit I make cosplay items and my husband ran a foundry, so alot of our assorted weaponry is handmade. We have 4 grown children who all learned to use them growing up.

My old practice sword (Sword short)weighs 2.4 pounds. that gets heavy after using it on wood and straw bales. Using a 20 pounder or heavier weight sword when my body weight averages 143 pounds gets to be too heavy. Folks who have not practiced with swords do not take into account the weight of the sword versus their bodyweight over the length of a day of working out.

2 to 3 pounds seems to be the norm for medieval swords. With only the largest of the two-handed swords heavier.

I think it's useful for anybody who has an interest in history to handle historical objects or accurate replicas. Swords included.

The Dadric sword looks to me a weapon for mainly shedding blood, a wreaking ball to the human body. Dosen't look like a sword for pro long fencing. Many spots on it for jacking someone up including the hilt. Most of what it has for hooks are really a large jagged blade on many parts down the sword like a steak knife, after all steak knives have small jagged blades, not hooks. Were on the Daderic sword the jagged edge is larger and spread more. I think it would be a complacted build because the sword appears to be fused togeather with 2 parts, one on the spine side and a seprate blade for the blade side.

How praticle is this sword that comes from a fantisy hell relm called Oblivion plain on this fantisy world that has no name but a content known as Temral, or is that the name of the world? Anyway, that level of weaponknowledgy of meele weapons is unknown to me. So I am not gonna state what is and isn't..

So I would consider just building a real version to work for a human instead of a super demon and see how it really gose. To look and have nothing to compaire to for hear say words is one thing verses actully building or crafting it and see if it really works. For example that living dead slayer sword mybe not be praticle, but what if it is all you got? I bet you see to it that its more pratcle than any tiny weapon in your hand...

As I read this I am taking a break from my new suit of Armour, Daedra inspired. It is the first time I have worked with worbla. I am laughing because I have been waffling on making Daedra swords to go with the suit.

It would certainly rend flesh. The problem arises from the fact that the serrations would get stuck on bones making it difficult to remove. If it had a straight edge, it wouldn't face that as much, and is still a terrifying weapon.
