A dollar ($) sign before some text strings.

Hello, I just reinstalled Skyrim and have run into a strange problem. Like the title says, there's a dollar sign before many of the texts in game. For example, the main menu looks like: $Continue, $New, $Load, etc.
It seems to mostly concern the menus, in-game it also appears in inventory bookmarks, as in "$Skills", "$Magic", etc.
It is the same on a modded and unmodded game. I've even tried reinstalling and it's still there. Any help? Thanks!

yes validate your files, right click Skyrim and go to valdiate files in one of the tabs, if it says recovered 2 or more files than it should be fixed. Please respond when you try that.

Well... the first time I tried it it did nothing. In any case, I tried it again, I thought maybe it would work now... it found one file it could not validate (about 700 bytes) and redownloaded it. When I launched the game, it was suddenly in Czech (which is not what I want, even though I speak Czech). So I exited the game, switched the language to English aaaaand... now it crashes on startup :/

EDIT: I tried validating files once again. It found a problem with the exact same file. The game still crashes...

EDIT2: For some freakish reason, though, it works when I switch it back to Czech. Now I'm really at a loss...

also make your way to documents/skyrim/ open skyrim.ini. Put in the line sLanguage=ENGLISH
if that is not present put it there

I noticed this (among other small string issues) when I changed my game language.
An uninstall and reinstall remedied it - if your internet connection isn't metered, it might be worth doing that before going to sleep or going to work.

There are more mods to come, but I usually add them in small increments so I can check if nothing conflicts. The load order is automatic, the way Nexus manager made it.

I'll try the .ini file tweak though...

OMG, somehow that .ini tweak worked! Thanks a lot. For some reason, the game didn't update the file when I downloaded the new language files, that's why it crashed. The dollar signs are gone, too! I appreciate the help, everyone :)

Just noticed you stated that was the load order that NMM gave you, which is incorrect. In NMM got to the Tools icon on the top and select Automatic Plugin Sorting.

Ahh, thankyou, you guys are lifesavers, that was driving me nuts! xD
I encountered this after I botched the install of FNIS and PCEA2 through MO - I'm assuming that somehow I/the failed installation managed to delete some files, as I had 6 recovered files on the first verification, another 1 on the second verification (which keeps recurring on every subsequent verification, though it seems fixed now =D), one of them being the Data>Interface>Translate_ENGLISH.txt, which I hear is the most common cause, but seems I was a bit too tired/frustrated to think of the obvious fix.. xD

$ in programming is a wild card, it denotes an unknown value, so the computer searches for all entries followed by the next term, so $Language looks up anything that is somethingLanguage.

Or it used to back when I started learning IT in the eighties.
