What does Attunement Sphere do?

Some crazy guy called Septimus Signus gave us a cube and a sphere in our way to get to an Elder Scroll. The cube had a use to achieve the Elder Scroll, but Attunement Sphere isnt used at all. Do it work in some side quest?

It is a key to open the entrance to Blackreach, you should have used it at the end of Alftand. It also opens entrances to Blackreach in Mzinchaleft and Raldbthar as well.

Yeah, I knew it might look a little sketchy.

Gona give some tips for ya for 2 things that happen after this.

Main story quest: The elder scroll weighs in at 20 units, and can't be dropped or stored anywhere. Once you use it to learn that fancy thing to stop Alduinn, go to the college of winterhold and find the orc in the library. You can give it to him, and he pays you ~2000 gold for it, and stores it. I was the archmage when I found out about this, but I'll assume you can give it even if you aren't the archmage.

You don't use the scroll for anything else in the game (If I remember correctly)


A daedric quest: When you give the upgraded attunement sphere to Septimus (remember to pick it up again after you've got the elder scroll), he can give a new quest to you. It requires you to collect blood from a high, wood and dark elf, orc and a falmer. Just find a dead body of one and search them, the option will pop up. Completing this will give you a daedric artifact, called the Oghma infinium.

This can be used to give 6 skills in one of the 3 class types (warrior, thief and mage) a 5 level increase. This is wise to save until you have most of the skills affected at a fairly high level (around level 70, maybe.) to get the most out of it. But, you can use it however you want.
