this is the linch pin in my choise. Do you like the jarl of white run? if so join imps. if not join stormcloacks. who you join means very little if anything to the whole of the true main story. also do not buy a house if you pick stormclaocks as you'll loose your key and it will gltich. you have to wait until after they take over towns before you buy your house just to make sure your key to your home is safe. (Hartfire build your own are safe from this glitch) same with imps in windhelm don't buy a house until the imps take over windhelm. Infact the safe option on the glitchy houses are don't buy them until you have done the whole imp vs stormcloack war BS. Once you know which city is taken by who in the game you will know what hosues are safe to buy befor you pick a side.

(for the record: I always pick imps because I like the guy that runs whiterun, I also think he should be skyrims new high king, he cares about his people, not what other people think. also has no love of the thalmar while not being racist.)

If you wan't to be known throughout Tamriel, join the Empire. If you wan't to suck the d*ck of a racist, lazy, self-centred, racist, scumbag, peace of cr*p, racist wanabe king (namely Ulfric) who is also racist then join the Stormjokes.

Here we go again:
Empire is the lesser of the two evil's.
In the empire all races are equile.
The empire is corrupt yes but corruption is a disease.
And like any disease, once it has been discovered you cut it out.
So the corrupt atleast pretend to obey the law.

The stormcloaks are xenophobic.
They believe everything must be done the nord(see: holigan) way.
They arent rasist.
There xenophobic in that they fear and hate anything none nords.
They stop just short of being a smaller version of the thalmor.

When i pick a side i ask myself:
Do i want a corrupt goverment that will scam me out of my every last septim?
Or a goverment that would trow me in jail for not cooking my food the nord way.

I also play altmer and i dislike nord ego contest to begin with.

The pro of joining the imperials:
Nice gaurds.
Polite jarls.
Unified under imperial law(who all must answer too, in theory)
Good low level armor.

Con of joining the imperials:
The empire is dying(it is unsure if it can recover even if skyrim remains part of the empire)
Corruption will run rampent.

The pro of joining the stormcloak:
Skyrim is free to live the nord(holigan) way.

Con of joining the stormcloak:
Skyrim will be ruled by xenophobic supremist nords who believe the nord way or the high way.

The reason for any "sane" person to join the stormcloak is that freedom and selfrule is more important protectiont and unity.

The reason any "insane" person(majority of the stormcloak supporters)
Because the empire try to behead you.
Because ulfric is (for some unholy reason) loved.
Because they confuse anarcy with freedom(aka they think that freedom is do whatever you want and dont have any responsibilty, rather then taking responsiblity for your own actions)

The question you shoud be asking yourself.
Who do i consider a better ruler for skyrim.
Ulfric my way or the high way stormcloak.
Or
Money makes right empire?

Both are pretty much the same, even the stories are a bit similar. Just the nature of the factions is different. Stormcloaks are rebels, Imperial Legion is, well, a millitary legion.

The Imperials are under Thalmor (a bunch of high elven ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥) control, and the Stormcloaks are under Ulfric's control, who the Thalmor think he's indirectly helping them by weakening the Imperials.

Also, Stormcloaks don't take too kindly to people who aren't Nords (they aren't hostile to them, but they don't like them either, the Gray Quarter and the Windhelm port are proof of this)

If you want to go the good guy way, i would pick Stormcloaks, but again, your choice.

Two corrections:
1: the thalmor dont control the empire.
There are some justicar's the empire have to tolerate(because of truce threaty)
But they dont answer to the thalmor.
2: There is no good guy way.
The empire is the lesser of the two evil.
How in the name of the eight did you come to the conclusion the stormcloak is the good guy way?
That is like saying joining the klu kolx clan(or whatever those wierdo's with whitehood's and robes are called) is the good guy way.

The Empire .. lesser evil

unless you want to be a total sociopath that likes to crash down the system (like me)

We take care of our own.

There's basically no difference in the actual quests, the amount of effort Bethesda put in making the two storylines different and unique from each other is laughable. The Jarls will be different NPCs upon conclusion, you'll get slightly different armour and weapons given to you (all terrible), and instead you'll either have a bunch of quests to kill one side, or another at basically the same places. Once you've completed either questline, there's also no real effect on the world.

Yeah about that....
Am i the only one bothered that the imperials beat the stormcloaks on intel(the crown) the stormcloak have.
I mean is it that hard to have the empire arive later and you have to fight your way out.
Rather then have the exact same mission as the empire.
Atleast it made sense from the empire side:
Reluctent general + they got intel that the enemy found something.

Also the stormcloak are a bunch of hypocrits.
Fighting for the free worship of talos....blackmails a talos worshiper with the threat of turning him over to the thalmor(makarth mission)...........Realy?
On the empire side you blackmail a high elf steward into exposing her connetion to the thieves guild(aka exploiting her corruption)

I think we were talking about the roleplay side of things. Atleast that's what it looked like.

True, that's what people responded with, but his/her question was simply give me the pluses and minuses of either side. I interpreted that as game effects opposed to lore/political ones. Both types of answers are helpful. Play both branches, experience both are my final thoughts.
True.
