Why does everyone hate the thalmor ?

Yeah i played skyrim pretty long without any cheats and mods that would help i reached level 80 so i know a lot but i dont get why the thalmor are asssucker i know they are but why i never got that plot :) i would be happy if someone could explain it to me :DD

they destroyed the empire long ago in a war, also they took talos the man god off from the deity list and in general are @$$holes to everyone thinking their high and mighty, and are suoerior to all other mortal beings. as a Dark elf i hate them just as much as the nords

Going through the lore, the Altmer in particular tend towards a superiority streak. Some Altmer may be following a very honest desire to what is best for everyone based on the assumption that mer are inherently superior to man.

There is also a very large religious issue. Man believes that they were created by Lorkhan (Shor), and thus that their existence is a blessing from the Gods (Aedra). By contrast, Mer believe that they are the descendants of the Aedra, tricked by Lorkhan into losing their divinity. This is I think where the inherent superiority comes from. It also means there are fundamental differences in how the two races view the world and their place in it.

As it applies to the Thalmor of the Third Aldmeri Dominion (that is, the Thalmor in this game), Man hate them because their goal is to replace Human rule of Tamriel (achieved under Tiber Septim via Numidium) with Elvan rule of Tamriel. The non Altermer races of Mer resent the Altmer, who believe themselves superior to the other elven races. Some of the Altmer resent the Thalmor because they disagree with their policies, sort of like how not every Nord is a Nord Supremacist.

The current Thalmor are also based on a lie. After the second Aldmeri Dominion fell, the Thalmor were reduced to a fringe fundamentalist political party that no one really took seriously. They won back support by claiming to have ended the Oblivion crisis, saving the Summerset Isles, now Alinor. They won the support of the Khajiit by claiming they restored the Moons to the Sky. They accomplished neither of these things, hence their current regime is standing entirely on a foundation of lies, and that's just not a good place to start.

But really, everyone has a reason to hate the Thalmor.

Also note that Thalmor and Altmer are not interchangeable terms, and I am not using them as such. The Thalmor are a Aldmeri political body, so Altmer culture is important to some of this, but not all Altmer are Thalmor.

They don't care about religion per se. They're only against the worship of Talos. Now why that is there several theories but you can summarice it into two points.
One: Talos was human, in the religious view of the Altmer men is a creation of the gods, they can't be gods as they're constructs, lesser beings. Mer on the other hand are the literal children of the gods and have divine blood.
Two: They believe the creator of men trapped their divine and immortal souls into mortal prisons we call bodies. They believe the trapping of an immortal soul in a mortal body that can die is genocide. To free their souls from this prison they need to undo the creation of a mortal plain. One possible way to do that is destroy the foundations on which it's build. One of them is the god Talos, his mortal heritage is a fact that needs a mortal plain. As long as Talos remains a god through worship the mortal plain can't be destroyed. So they outlaw his worship, simple really.

let's assume that theologically the thalmor are right. they can't "prove" it and their suppression of talos is very upsetting to Nords.

Hey the Empire also bans several religions/gods ;)

What is evil, what is murder. The Morag Tong are legal, that's sanctioned legal killing. Murder isn't always outlawed. But yes I mostly mean the Daedra, Daedra worship is outlawed in any territory under Imperial control. Morrowind at best used to be a satrapy, a seperate entity paying taxes to the emporer. It was never officially conquered. Now it's not even part of the empire anymore.
Malacath is banned, despite being 'evil'. He's a pathron and possible father of the Orcs. Sounds like religious oppression to me. In the eyes of the Thalmor the very worship of Talos enables elves to be killed. He doesn't stand for ritualized murder but ritualized genocide.

But the empire forbids the worship of orcish Jahweh/Jesus. Isn't that evil enough to overthrow them? Hell even their divine bloodline is gone. It's now just a man.

maybe wait until elder scrolls 6 maybe we get to get revenge on the thalmor and find the truth of who they really worship (Maybe New Daedra as in brand new lore but I very highly doubt it thalmor wouldnt worship daedra or would they?) but the next one is highly likely either summerset isles or hammerfell.

Speaking of new daedra, What whom he/she is a daedric prince of *Blah blah blah*
I say Elitism, Lies and Facism but I think they seem similar to those other current daedric prince

The Empire didnt ban Daedra worship. In Oblivion, the game set in the heart of the Empire, when you go to Daedra cults they will say that what they're doing is perfectly legal, as will many other NPC's.
