dawnbreaker upgrade is crap.
I got the dawnbreaker today and since it did only 14 damage I needed something more my level so I upgraded it, but even with smithing at 100 a potion of 20% better upgrade and some gauntlets that let me upgrade better I only managed ti get it epic wich basicly means it only does +10 damage How do I get it legendary?

You did the quest at a lower level and got the gimped version that was "approapriate for you."

Not much you can do to get it up to par with higher level items.

your level could be the issue, plus did you try wearing appropriate stuff to boost weapons/armour creation as there are vids on youtube where someone couldnt create legendary stuff then used booster armour/necks/rings and bang he was able legendary stuff

Im level 45 and I wore gauntles that gave me 22% more effecient upgrades and I also drank a potion of smithing with 20% more effeciency

The dawnbreaker is a Ebony type item, are you sure you have ebony smithing?
That doubles the upgrade value.

Also by the time you are level 45 i assume you invested some time into enchanting.

i have 100 enchanting and i can make 4 items with 25% blacksmithing/Alchemy, so its 100% there.

so with the blacksmithing perk, and 100% increase gear, that's 200% upgrade, i get all my items to beyond legendary.

Dawnbreaker is not on the leveled items list, so it's base damage is 12 no matter when you get it. Also, on tempering; "Though it can be tempered with an ebony ingot, it is not classified as an ebony weapon -- nor is it classified as any other standard weapon material. Therefore, its upgrades do not benefit from any smithing perks, and can only be tempered to Flawless quality without a Fortify Smithing effect." quoted from http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dawnbreaker

@ ZirzoR Depends, it's a strong weapon against vamps up into the mid-40's. But yea, you can make better around the mid-20's.

Hee-Hee, I was able to get a deadric bow up to 935 (With a little console tweaking)

As my one handed weapon skills improve, my Dawnbreaker is putting out 38 damage currently without any upgrades.

Just do what everyone else does and get Chillrend at lvl 50+ or any weapon really as with sufficient smithing even vanilla weapons can be powerful as all hell.

Any armor for that matter too equip what looks cool even low level dawnbreaker.

Actually there are mods that you can add that will let you level up items like that.

Just one example: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/16090/?
