Smithing in Requiem
How does tempering work in Requiem? What would I have to do to get mater work or legendary?

mater work? However to progress in Smithing, you require the approriate smithing book. You can't activate a Smithing perk without the corresponding Smithing book in your active inventory. Though this feature can be turned off via the MCM menu.

Yes, according to the manual there are tempering tiers, Well made being the lowest, mater work being the 2nd to top and legendary being top dog.

I think I was being a lil misleading in the title about smithing I meant how do you smith higher tier weapons.. I have to corresponding perks I need but They either be high grade or first rate.

What's your smithing skill level? I haven't done much smithing in Requiem, but my understanding is this is one of the skills where skill level is actually quite important (e.g. even with the basic smithing perk you can't improve even iron items before I think it's about skill 15).

It's at 100, got the elven smithing book, my bow which is elven material I can achieve first rate(Pre Legendary Smithing perk) and Exquiste(Post Legendary Smithing perk)

By the looks of it, that's normal and you're unlikely to get higher: https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimrequiem/comments/35txx4/anyone_knows_how_smithingtempering_formulas_behave/ (comments from ogerboss seem to imply this, at least.

Huh, that's interesting, I thought there were no potion or gear to enhance crafting skills in requiem?

Yeah, that's what I thought, too, actually...

As far as I know, in console I see there are ably smithing and such along with gloves and rings to boost smithing.... but where to get them I have no clue.

EDIT: Yep according to the manual they were removed... so the only way you can get them is through potion
