Is the Dragonborn a Nord To You?
Some people say that Morrowind was MADE to be played as a Dunmer, and that carries on over to Skyrim. Some like to think that the Dragonborn can be a Nord and only a Nord and that it's "confirmed" in the lore and whatnot. I disagree with that, and say that every player's own tale is canon. In my mind, the one and only Dragonborn hails from Black Marsh. What are your thoughts? Does the Dragonborn have to carry the blood of a Nord? Or could a beast be the hero? Or an elf?

My understanding was that: yes Martin from Oblivion was a dragonborn, like all male Septims, being descendants of Talos. The dragonborn is closer to Talos than Martin however, being a "pure" Dragonsoul born in a mortal.
All the Septims were Dragonborn. But not because of Talos. Emperors before Talos were also Dragonborn. Reman Cyrodiil, for example. Saint Alessia for another. That these people all have distant Atmoran ancestry is mere coincidence, since ALL humans in Tamriel (other than Redguards) descend from the Atmorans.

Martin is Talos, right? I thought so. You are referring to the distinction, right?

And I don't know guys. Atmora may be key. But then Redguards could not be Dragonborn, nor any other race of Tamriel. Nor the Akavir. Yet the Akavir knew who a Dragonborn was...

And one reason to wonder if the Dragonborn are humans alone is because it originally was a gift to humans to stand against Dragons and then Elves. But against the Dunmer, the Nords could not win. So we realize the Divines are not biased for man. And as the Blades expanded beyond humans, and even being Akaviri, so maybe the Dragonborn is not limited. Then again, however, they are a distinct group apart from being or directly relating to having the blood of a Dragon.
im ALWAYS a nord.....
I think it's implied, but I don't see why anyone should actually care. Just be anything OTHER than a humanoid race as a big "♥♥♥♥ You" to Ulfric. Racist bastard xD

If you want to get Uber technical with it the term Dragonborn in the games before skyrim was basically a word that meant they were somehow related to akatosh and also the royal imperial bloodline in skyrim however the Dragonborn in this game is a Nordic warrior by most accounts and they use the standard nord character for the trailers of Skyrim which is usually what is considered canon for the elder scrolls timeline
