Help: Forgotten Vale - Vyrthur Won't Ascent To The Balcony

Well, it seems after defeating Vyrthur's minions he won't ascend the staris to the Forgotten Vale Overlook. He stands at the bottom of the left set of stairs, and he engages in dialogue with Serena who manages to clmb the stairs to the overlook. I don't think they complete the dialogue as combat does not begin when they are finished.

Vyrthur has a quest markder over him, so it is recovnized as an active quest. The only in game actions I can perform are walking, running, sneaking, and jump;ing. I can't TAB into anything, including the quest UI.

Does anyone know if this is a known problem? If so, is there a fix? There seems to be nothiing blocking the stairs. I did try reloading - no luck!

In the Skyrim UESP they have lists of bugs that you can check out iof a reload and replay doesn't fix

I have done that several times and never had a problem..I'd suggest reload and retry!
if not read the bug reports and follow their advice

Eternie thanks for the reply, I tried disabling all of my data files, no luck. I tried reloading, voodoo chants, latenight rituals, and even swearing like a drunken sailor on shoreleave (even latenight voodoo rituals swearing like a sailor). Zero.

I knew the Wiki links existed, but not the workarounds presented at the end of each section. So, it looks as if I will use the console, kill Serena and that other guy,and then use the console to ressurect Serena as the guide suggests.

Okay, in case this might help somebody else:

I used console commands to kill to kill Varythur. That did not trigger a quest advance so I had to then use the console to ressurect him. Then I killed him. That advanced the quest. I don't know why he would advance to the baclony for the dialogoue event.

Anyway, on my way to confront the vampire king . . .
