I prefer the house in Falkreath because of the really nice sourroundings.
But Seabreeze Estate (mod) is also a great place to live.
Till know, my wives didnt got attacked.
But if you are worried about getting attacked by vampires, you may try When Vampires Attack mod.
I hope this helpful.

Wife does leave a house, if it was a self build hearthfire house. They wander and work outside, like steward and housecarl.
They don't leave from city homes. That's kind of a shame, really. Somehow the whole thing get's dull, when your spouse just sits inside instead of being "alive" member of the community.
Strange. I wonder if there are some limitation in different AI packs.
My only hearthfire spouse so far have been Sylgja. Se wanderd around the house and the yard, occasionally working with tanning rack, or using the anvil. Sometimes she was sitting at the balcony above our bedroon.
