Did you activate the mods through Nexus Mod Manager, or install them manually? If you did not use NMM, were the mods activated in the Skyrim Data Files (accessed through the Skyrim Launcher from Steam)? There was a problem a while back where *Steam* limited people to 50 mods from the Workshop, I don't know if this also affected people who had manually installed mods and activated them through the Launcher's Data Files section.
No, they're not - they have a page which highlights the paid subscription options, which is pretty commonplace (look at just about any other website which has paid and free options, such as software that has a basic, free version or a fancy, paid one) but if you actually read the page it's clear that there's a free option.
No idea, given AFAIK there's no way for them to access your computer and switch on or off your mods, it's much more likely to be a coincidence. As I said, how were you managing the mods?
I have spent various periods as a paying member and when my subs were done I have not experienced anything like you describe.
This is clearly a case of user error.
Also the workshop bites the big one - modding a Bethesda game requires full control of your data folder - something the workshop completely denies. Paying at nexus is simply a means for us - the users - to support what is a free site run and filled with content by folks who also - users - no different from any of us.
The only thing I can recall from NexusMM is that you have to activate the mods, even though it handles the download part okay, usually. You have to first watch and make sure your download completes successfully. Sometimes it times out, or takes a long time, but once it's completed, then you have to activate them. Other than that, I don't know.
It sounds like you're getting them to work and they're somehow deactivating. It's hard to troubleshoot other peoples' setups and installations. I've had no issues whatsoever with Nexus, and I've never paid them a cent. I've thought about becoming a premium member, but I just haven't made that step yet.
I hope you get it sorted, because without the Nexus, Skyrim would have fallen to the wayside in my Library a long time ago.
I agree in principal, I loved the extras in my game I got through nexxus, but the frustration of having them constantly disappear is aggravating. I can't use nexxusMM, for some reason it won't launch when I select the green "download with NMM" button, so there is no way I can use it to "activate" the mod. I've tried "endorsing" the mod on it's download page and I've followed the manual download instructions to the letter on each file I've downloaded. I can see the BluedSteelPlate.esp and the EnhancedDawnbreaker.esp in the data folder, and the meshes and textures folders are all still there. when I load up the game I always check my data link list, when they are working they are all there with checks in the boxes, although there is no "subscribed/Yes" next to them. When they are not working they are simply gone from the list, and it drives me crazy.
When you download the files, if you either download them to the Games\Nexus Mod Manager\Skyrim\Mods folder (if your browser allows you to choose a download location) or drag and drop them there after download, you should be able to find them to activate in the Mods tab when you launch NMM again.
The "Subscribed/yes" in the "Data Files" tab is ONLY for Workshop mods, since the Workshop cannot setup a mutual connection with the Nexus.
If the "mods" are disappearing from your "Data Files" tab of the Skyrim Launcher, then I would say it is something localized to your computer [perhaps a User permissions issue? Admin vs Regular account].
Hopefully others can chime in here.
For those that listen to your friends, STOP.
The only thing I can think of is that your load order. Some mods need to be near the top of the load order or they'll just get deactivated.
NEVER launch Skryim through Steam. NMM takes care of it for you, or you can launch directly from the SKSE link that should have been created when you installed the SKSE program. That's how I do it anyway. It's rarely complicated, thank goodness.
