Anyone Using BV Mod ? - Better Vampires
Went to the link Twobears poosted in another thread and downloaded this mod and from the video, this looks great,do you start out right from the word go, in helgen? and what about questing n such guess you wouldn't be doing a whole lot, or buying a home for the daylight hours o.O,? and watching this from you tube I see you can also turn jarl of white run into a vamp, o.O just after awhile, might this get a little boring just asking , I would like to hear from other who have used or are using this, what they think, !

had this sitting here while I read the authors website on the mod and watched the video a couple more time, I;m starting to understand this mods, i guess you need the vamp quest line to be active to use this or get this working in game, yeah ? .... o.o

I saw the same post and playing it right now. you start out a vamp but with settings you can determine if sun damages you and a bunch oif other things. you are not however a vamp lord or at your strongest. you must feed on people to get stronger. the vamp lord ability offers additional abilities. oh ya and you can set it so you are hated or or not depending on what you want.
im also using Amazing Follower tweaks which allows you to have upto 5 followers at a time and 30+ in reserve. A vampire army at your disposal. play it as you want at any given time. all options can be adjusted to your whim.
I also use alternate start so I started of in the vampire lair. might as well go all vamp right. I did test it the normal way so yes its right from the start or when you want to add the mod.
It could get boring if you just play vamp killing but if you use the abilities during the course of everything else it will feel natural i think.

Went to dinner, when the reply came thru,
I have been going thru the settings, n looking at each just like it showed in the video, I know u can be a vamp right from the start, in helgen, which is where i wanted to first test it out, but what im trying to work out is, Is this mod quest needed or linked , as in before you get to use any of the skills or abilities, liike bite n such , or do I need to be a lot stronger, the player in the Authors video what quite a few levels high, which made me think is it quest active dependant for abilities ?

you may have to use the fix for non custom race. it is an option. i also use CCO so its not quite a vanilla race. and then wait to change 10 seconds or so. now feed and it shoulkd kick in

As soon as you become a vampire (whether right at the start, or through contracting Sanguinare Vampiris at a later stage) you have some extra abilities on top of the vanilla vampire stuff. The more times you feed off humans (either sleeping or via sneaking up and doing a bite attack) the stronger you will become, with some new abilities at each level, and some of the existing ones becoming stronger (e.g. I think you get more of a boost to speed, jump height and your vampiric drain spell becomes stronger).

There are no quests in the mod, no.

On my BV playthrough I used Skyrim Unbound, started in the wilderness near... can't remember the name of it, but a barrow near Falkreath that's full of vampires, ran in there, caught the disease, barely escaped with my life, then went and joined the College and the Thieves' Guild while I just had the disease rather than having become a full vampire (as I've read that they won't let you join after that point - not sure if it's true, but seemed worth doing just in case). Adventured around, feeding whenever I could ("accidentally" killed Belethor so that Ysolda, one of my favoured victims in Whiterun could take over his shop), eventually went in disguise and joined the Dawnguard then went off to find Serana, take her to Daddy and become a Vampire Lord. Didn't really use the VL that much, but completed that side of the Dawnguard questline, married one of the priestesses of Dibella, had lots of fun. Only got about three ranks up in the BV vampire system thing, but it was a lot of fun even with just the initial extra boosts, and I like being able to reverse the stages of hunger (so you get strongest after you feed).

Oh, I'm sure he/she'll be back, or a cousin at least :)

Hahaha, all this time, I thought you were offline, as I didn't see the badger.

*mistress of disguise face* (The new pic is this, btw http://xkcd.com/386/ not sure if it shows up big enough to tell, even in embiggened form).

Anyway, back on topic... I never tried out the thing where you can turn someone and they'll apparently have a chance of feeding on/turning other people while you're gone, but it sounded pretty cool. The side quests for the vampire side of Dawnguard are pretty fun, and have some quite nice rewards, from what I remember. I bought two homes, the one near Morthal (having taken out my nearest rival, it seemed fitting...) and the one in Solitude, which was my Respectable City Home where my wife lived in the comfort she knew to expect from me.

Better Vampires is a good mod if you want to play as a vampire, but feeding becomes such a daily chore. I've tried it a while ago and had to unsubscribe from it and the delete the mod from the data files because my vampire character had to constantly feed all the time. At that point it wasn't becoming something of a fun playstyle so much as a daily chore like I said above. That single chore put my character in a routine in which I had to keep her fed all the time. That's why I got rid of the mod; it demanded a strict feeding routine I had to follow all the time, so my interest in playing a vampire character waned over time until I decided enough was enough. Something can only hold your attention for so long because it's perceived as fun at first, but to have it become a chore is to take the fun out of it.

Ahhh ok, went back in game as i remember something about doing a 3 day wait , so did that and each time the thirst message popped till last day you vamp is awakened, and the mod is great for re doing settings, will look into that thieves guild thing, before i get to strong and cant join, just in case,... lol at killing belethor, he's one guy in white i'll be snacking on, and I'd really like to do the serena quest line, but do i need dawnguard quest to start it ? and thanks all for your replies, im starting to really enjoy this , my spells and such are starting to come into play, and getting the hang of how they all work, also I'd like to ask when does the perk thing kick in, and is it a tab thing to access ?

Yeah, I think there's a spell or power that lets you disguise yourself as human for a brief time, go to Fort Dawnguard, trick the foolish humans into thinking you're one of them, and go off to do their quest, which takes you to where you find Serana. When you bring her to her father you have the choice of joining his side or going back to the Dawnguard, obviously pick his side. He will turn you into a Vampire Lord, and that's where the perk tree comes in. He gives you what amounts to a tutorial, explaining your new powers and such.

That mod is Excellent if you want to play as vampire there is no need to begin dawnguard questline there are various ways in which you can become vampire by fighting some vampires you can contract disease sanguine vampiris which will make you vampire the mod is cool it also allows you to turn other NPC into vampire they can become follower as well. you get quite a lot powers as you advance through vampire ranks which are awesome to use during fights there is a lot of customizable options in MCM you can customize the mod according to your taste. i love playing with blood pool feature on its an awesome mod in general

I know this post is old, but havent been on for a couple days, and still have question about BV mod, specially for -- Gnewna if your online,-- that spell you mention where you disguise your self in human form in order to be able to get the dawnguard quest line started on serena , is it called Mortal mask? and lasts for 15 min, which im hoping is enough time to get the quest started and away from prying eyes, ..?
Clever Monkey Jun 13, 2014 @ 4:28am

I believe, so, yes. If you cast it as you're approaching Fort Dawnguard you should have time to get in, talk to Isran, grab anything useful (crossbow, bolts, war axe...) and saunter out.
