Witcher 3 To Become The Next Skyrim?
NOTE: I posted this thread in the Witcher 3 Hub, and people there were expectantly biased, offering no solid arguments for the contrary; but mundanely repeating that Skyrim is dull. Therefore, whilst the opposite bias may be expected here, I thought I'd post for balance.

"It certainly looks that way to me.

Skyrim was widely accepted to be the Game of the Year 2011; and to be honest for me it's been the Game of Every-Year-Since. The scale of Skyrim is truly legendary, and is the pinnacle of RPG'dom in my opinion. It has not been topped by any other game - although Dark Souls 2 is coming close for me.

The Witcher 3 has all the makings of an equally legendary RPG, from the distance we are from it. Obviously it's a long way to release, sso things may change; but the developer promises of 100 hour campaign, open worldness, rich side missions and variable combat is all pointing one way to me, and it looks wonderful.

I haven't played the other games yet, I plan to pick them up in the Summer Sale, but this one has really caught my eye; as I feel it will be comparable to my favourite game ever: Skyrim.

What do you think; is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt set to top the RPG throne, or will the conventions of the saga - such as the non-developable player character, relegate it to the ranks of those who didn't quite make it?"

The Witcher 3 is apparently getting rid of the linear areas though, I would like to see how much so.
Not this ♥♥♥♥ again

Seems like the opinions are almost exactly the same here though.

Also, personally I can't play The Witcher 1 or 2, I've tried to play into them VERY hard, but after like 4 hours in, I'll get bored and quit. Might just be because I don't very much so like being confined to linear areas.

I have the exact same problem.
The feeling of freedom and the desire(and possibility) to explore a vast world is what keeps me going in Rpg's. All is secondary to that.

On topic :
Open world suggests a much complexer environment to work in for developers. Getting pretty graphics, interactivity and dynamics in a linear area obviously is much easier then in an open world environment.
I 'm definitely curious how 'open' the world will be and how much that will affect the overal quality tho I don't doubt the skill of the in-house developers and designers.
