Never used a shield or a two handed weapon.
Daggers for stealth. Even if you miss, the enemies wont hear the dagger. A sword or other will get you noticed. Also daggers get bonus damage from a sneak perk.
Dual wield axes, swords and daggers, or one of those and a spell.
Dual wielding is also useful depending on the character you're playing as, but a flaw in the Hot Key system forces you to only use one weapon of the same name. For instance, I enchanted two Daedric daggers on an Assassin build and gave both of them the same name because the idea behind them was to use twin daggers. However, the Hot Key system prevented me from selecting both daggers for both hands because it would register them for one hand only. Plus the second dagger would disappear from the Hot Key menu if I didn't assign it to one of the number keys. This meant I'd have to go back into my inventory just to switch between spells and my second dagger, which is tedious since assigning them to Hot Keys is faster and doesn't go through the entire process of inventory work just to wield two weapons in addition to spells.
I assume what I said blew your mind, didn't it? No offense intended, but it's not really surprising unless you're new to the game and haven't tried out duel wielding with spells and Hot Keys for the same build. Skyrim was released on 11-11-11, so it's been a little over two years since then. This problem wouldn't really be that new since some people might have already discovered it and spoke about the issue in threads like this one so others would know about it.
Bound Battleaxe.
Also, I never got the hang of 2-handed, because its slower, by the time the attack completes, the bad guys and follower have moved and a lot of the time I strike the follower. You think that would make them angry.
Plus Bound Dagger is available if you have Dragonborn installed (though I can't remember if you can buy it from court mages/CoW or if you have to go to Solstheim, I've only ever had it in SkyRe which alters stuff like that somewhat.)
x30 damage. One hit almost everything.
Shadow warrior with that means you're able to do so mid combat. With great difficulty.
No offense intended, but most of that information is already common knowledge in the series; plus the playstyle is also well-known among the community because it falls within a set of skills that apply to Rouge classes like Thieves and Assassins.
With a Mace and Bone-Breaker, you can do a lot of damage real quick that way.
