My console commands don't work
None of my console commands do anything at all. I tried turning off all my mods but it didn't help. Does anyone know a solution to this?

You sure your entering them right? Open the console and type in tfc <enter> now exit the console. You should now have a free flying camera.

I tried it with "tcl" and "advancepcskill smithing 100" but ill try tfc too.

You have the code wrong. Before I give you the right one, read the big red box on this page.

player.forceav smithing 100

Ok, so I used tfc and it worked and then all my other console commands started working too. I have no clue what happened. Maybe because I turned all my mods off and on it fixed the problem? That doesn't make any sense to me but I don't see any other reason of why they would just start working now.

It may be hard to believe at this point but I'm not actually a complete idiot. I thought the correct command was "advancepcskill" because it said it was on this guide.

Also I fully understand the dangers of using console commands and obviously I saved before trying anything. I don't know if using the flying camera console command actually fixed anything but I think you for your help regardless.

I think player.setav is meant to be safer than forceav for most things, isn't it? I seem to remember forceav being problematic if you want to revert to un-cheated values.

@ gnewna -- In a way setav is a little safer (very few console commands are safe) I use the forceav because the setav will eventually reset. Modav adds a permanent buff, but I have this reset on me as well.

@OP -- For the guide, as the author states it is a work in progress. He is missing some important warnings about some of the codes, i.e. psb should only be used for testing it will ruin any game save. Also it appears he advocates using the addspell command, it will work but it is safer to give yourself the spellbook and learn it that way.

The command you were trying to use would be player.advSkill <skill> <nn>, but this only adds XP to the skill, not add a level to the skill. If you want to overpower your character it is best to with a BATch file. There are plenty on the Nexus. Just find a bat file that cleans your character first., basically sets you to level 0, then find one for how powerful you want to be. This should also be done on a new game just outside the Helgen cave. If I'm doing a cheat character, when outside the cave I install my mods then run the bat files.

Certain commands are "targetted", meaning that if you happened to click an object / NPC while the console was open, then entering that command will attempt to apply it to that object / NPC. "tcl" is an example of such a command.

Toggle collision isnt targeted for me. If I just enter "tcl" it automatically applies it to my player character.

EDIT: Actually, I think it might just turn off the collision of everything?

It does indeed default to your character if no other valid target is selected.

Every npc in the game has two codes associated with them, reference ID and base ID, depending on the command you will need one or the other. The ID that shows up when you click on something is the base ID.
