Gold Bug - Gold Disappeared?

Hi !

I was dumping a lot of my items in my Lakeview manor house just now, to get some weight off. I leave the house and go to my steward who was mining and tell her to buy stuff. She told me I couldn't afford it, even though it only cost 1000 gold. I have 26k.

I check my misc inventory and my gold isn't there; yet on the home screen next to my level, it states I have 26k. I check all the places in my house where I put my stuff and my gold isn't there. But I discovered that if I open a container or talk with a companion, my gold shows up in my misc, meaning I'm able to deposit it. YET I can't see it in my own misc if I'm not accessing anything.

I even tried giving my companion my gold and then taking it back. Yet it's still invisible in my own inventory :(. This sucks guys. Is there anything I can do? I don't have a very recent save to load either... Argh! Otherwise I'll have to load a level 39 save, when I'm level 42.

EDIT: Okay I just loaded the level 39 one. I actually have more gold on this one! But even here it's missing. So I assume it affects all saves. What. The. ♥♥♥♥. Sometimes I really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate this game, know what I mean?

Gold isn't shown in the inventory unless you're in a container. I assume this is to prevent people from dropping it, for whatever reason. As for Lydia thinking you don't have enough, does that work now?

The thing is, I'm pretty sure I've opened my inventory before and seen the gold in the misc section. I could go ask her again, although I don't know what good it'll do, as the status hasn't changed.

Okay so, oddly enough, I can buy a 25 gold chicken from her, as well as materials like stones. But when I want to buy the 1000 gold room, she says I can't afford it. Huh??

I play on the PC platform. I state this as it it seems that the amount of currency you carry is reported in different ways on different platforms. On the PC I am used to opening my inventory, and seeing an amount of Gold next to the weight report, at the bottom/ right of the screen. If I then go on to open the Miscellaneous items screen (using SkyUI) I will see "Gold" and a corresponding amount. I understand that this is not the case on certain consoles. However, today I failed to buy upgrades to Breezeholm, in a conversation with the Steward. I was not using the exploit, nor were any mods in play that affect this location or transaction. I was able to ypgrade my loft, and all the rest, and with 756 Gold still in hand I wanted to upgrade my Bedroom. ( I was keeping a running total in my head, while cycling through the conversation options) The decorations will be complete when you get home, says Proventus. No they blinking weren't! I opened the Inventory to check, and the running total matched the bottom of the screen. HOWEVER...no gold exists in my inventory! I have sold stuff, and now have over 1,000 gold, but cannot buy a carrot!

Gold does not appear as an inventory item in Skyrim unless you use a mod that changes that to make it droppable. (SkyUI does not make this change.) Also, it would be better to start your own thread than to necro one from, what, nine months ago.

I've had this exact same problem. Usually happens when I go to furnish the house. Gold 'disappears' from my inventory. I have a bag of holding - and when I pull up the bag I can 'see' the gold, but housecarl says I can't purchase 1000 dollar room. I can purchase any other room, but not that one. And then it goes downhill from there. It infects all my saves (I can see my gold when at a merchant's counter - at the bottom, along with THEIR gold - but it is gone from inventory and some NPCs react like I don't have ANY.

I'm thinking it is Lakeview specifically (I have not built the other heartfire houses, yet, so it is an assumption), but it always starts when I ask the housecarl to furnish the house...and it 'disappears' my gold all the way back to first save. Have to dump all saves and restart the game.

I once had roughly 900.000 gp disappear into thin air. Not sure what happened, butt I just accepted it and set to work reacquirng it the hard way.

Sorry for your loss. I haven't played in years and frankly this thread is just a nostalgia trip for me now, for me to retire on. Maybe check if there's any mods available.
