Best race for thief class?

What race should I use if I want my character to be a theif-like character (one handed weapons, illusion magic, rely on sneak attacks etc)?

Any really, but my preference is for Khajit, Argonian, or Wood Elf.

Typical...Bretons obviously are the best thieves. No ones gonna assume that the Breton just lifted their purse when a couple Khajit are around.

Guards always know you are a sneak thief.

I like playing a Altmer thief, no particular gameplay reasons, as has been said above the racial bonuses are pretty much meaningless, they don't affect how quickly you can advance in a given skill or anything.

Any race will do (theives are ubiquitous). Nearly all of my stealth characters are built as you describe (with certain skills given greater emphasis than others). Their races are Imperial, Wood-elf, Altmer, and Dunmer repectively.

don't think it really matters in the long run, it's more important to choose a race that you'll enjoy playing
