Hey, sounds like your speakers are configured as surround sound and they are not auto-switching to headphones/(regular) stereo. you might need to manually switch that when you plug them in.

Unfortunately, this is fairly common which is why there is a function in "Steam" > "Settings" > "Voice" for redetecting audio device. There is an explanation that states when an audio device is plugged in then removed redetection may be necessary.
Might want to check and update, if necessary, your audio driver/manager which might help with this issue..
