Saving over a save file but with a new character
I am planning on creating a new character from scratch, more of a fire-type of mage. I have a previous character which is a Khajiit and a thief-assassin-type. Now, I have more than 1000 saves on that character of mine and I am worried on what might happen if I try to make a save using the new character. Will doing that affect the progress with my other character? Will it alter any stats? Reputation? Etc.? I don't feel like deleting my khajiit's saves for the purpose that I might want to go back to it soon while in-game.

EDIT: I haven't deleted.removed the very first save (Save 1, Prisoner, Nord, Helgen) for the fact that I want to skip the whole introduction and jump straight to character creation. So, if I try to save from that point, will the new save be Save 2 or, for example, Save 1005 following up the save number of my latest khajiit save?

~Thanks!

Provided your character has a new name, you'll be safe from overwriting, I'm not sure what happens if you have an identical name, race etc, I think it's still safe but not sure, still the best thing to do is create a new folder with your old character's name and move your saves. As far as new character's gameplay affecting old character's stats etc, no that's fine, the only thing to be careful of is not to remove any mods your old character needs without having a backup.

Oh, what WILL overwrite regardless of who you play as is auto saves, but tbh it's best to stick to manual saves anyway, I turn all auto saves off.

Thanks for this. Oh and yes, I didn't turn on my auto-saves since like, my very 5th save (out of a thousand). Good thing that I don't have any mods as well as I am not that much of a fan of (for now). I have this disgusting attitude where I tend to remove any old character saves IF I HAVE A NEW CHARACTER that's why I want to keep all of my old character and new characters saves in a single folder without overwriting one another. So let's say, my khajiit save ended on Save 1091, I want my new character's save to start on Save 1092. What I expect from this idea as well is the fact that I could go back to my other character any time I want while I am still in game and still prevent any overwriting of save files. Thanks to your statement above, I can do this without any doubt.

Though I already have a backup folder of my 1091 Khajiit saves and since I am keeping a few saves (3 or 5 Khajiit saves) I can start my new character's save on Save 1092 and start backing up from that save.

Forgive me for my sentence construction if it may confuse you, English is not my first/main language.

Saves are numbered in sequence. Say your last save is number 1000. When you start a new game with a new character, it will be saved as number 1001 and continue on from there. As long as you do not delete save number 1000, it will contain all the attributes of your old character and you can reload number 1000 when ever you want to continue that game.

Those concerns are grossly overblown, and the issue could be considered an urban myth. I've been using auto saves with Bethesda games ever since the days of Oblivion, and I've rarely had any issues with them. Occasionally they do become corrupt, but the odds of that happening are probably the same as those for getting hit by a bus while crossing the street. Since Skyrim creates 3 auto saves instead of just one, like their other games do, there's very little to worry about.

Thanks for this. This is exactly what I am talking about.

Heck yes I will never overwrite a save. I am doing this ever since I started playing RPG games. The importance of each save is well treasured especially here in Skyrim considering there are sneaky bugs here and there.

I have more than 200+ hours spent in Skyrim and I could say that I myself haven't met any issues with the autosaves. I do though turn them off as they somehow tend to slow my down my game everytime I enter and exit places.

I have spent well over 1000 hours playing various Bethesda games, probably more like 2000+, and the number of times I've had a save go corrupt on me I can count on the fingers of one hand. Yet this fallacy that using auto saves is a bad thing still pops up in all their discussion forums. I'd rather have a slight lag when I'm entering a new area, or fast travelling somewhere, than having to pause my game all the time in order to make a manual save. Plus I don't have to worry about getting myself killed in a battle, then discovering that I've forgotten to save for the last two hours.
