Quest items not in the chests
Greetings, since a yesterday i'm missing several quest items in the game. First queen freydis sword, then hjaltis sword. Now i'm doing a DLC Quest for Neloth (wind and sand), but the book is not in the chest. The quest items simply vanished. I tried to get them with cheats, but it doesn't work. Maybe a mod has broken them?

My mods:
Open Cities Skyrim
Convenient Horses
Flora Overhaul
Inigo
Lucien Flavius
SkyUI

Are you sure that those are all of your mods? They shouldn't affect vanilla quest items.

1, Run LOOT, just in case.
2. How were the mods installed? Manually, steam workshop, Mod manager?
3. Did you change anything recently, like installing or removing mods?

Hi Alex!

I installed the mods all manually into the Data folder. No, i didn't change much. I just noticed that the speed buff of Convenient Horses suddenly stopped working. And yes, that are all mods. I try to use only those who are really necessary to enhance the gameplay.

For starters, you should verify the game files, and sort the mods with LOOT. Getting the unofficial patch wouldn't hurt either.

Also, what do you mean by not changing much? Did you uninstall a mod midway through?

Alright, i'll try to find the unofficial patch.

The only thing i did was installing the Creation Kit and creating my own simple follower, which worked very well. But the "vanished item problem" happened also before i installed my follower. So it shouldn't be the problem. I changed the Convenient Horses options (only health bonus), then the speed buff stopped working suddenly. But the rest of the mods did not change. Neither Inigo, nor Lucien or anything else.

You should not be installing mods manually - even those of us with long time experience use mod managers. Use either Vortex or Mod Organizer 2. See the PINNED TOPIC Helpful Links and References, Section 3) TOOLS, LOAD ORDER, AND MOD CLEANING for tutorials on how to use a mod manager.

As for the Unofficial Patch, it is essential if you wish a problem free game but you do need all 3 DLCs - otherwise you cannot use the patch, as those are requirements): Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/71214

For complete information on the Patch and what it fixes and why, see:

That's strange, there's nothing in your setup which could affect gameplay in such a way. Uninstalling a big mod might've caused this, or perhaps a major mod conflict. Otherwise, there's not much I can deduct by guessing.

Since you don't seem to have the technical skills for in-depth troubleshooting, I'd advise you to reinstall the game, and use a mod manager for the mods.

Technical skills? Depends on what you mean. I know a little bit about game development, specially with Blender, Substance Painter and Unreal Engine 5. A little bit about AI and cheats too. But i just jumped into skyrim modding, it's new to me. But as i have some experience with the Oblivion Construction Set, i'm not completely blind into that stuff.

Well. Either i'll finish those quests with a setstage cheat, or i'll just research several more hours about the problem. I think that this bug will mostly affect quests in which you're supposed to pick up items from chests or other containers.

I meant skills with TES5Edit in particular.

You could try, and find the source of this error, but it may take you quite some time. After all, it is not necessary related to mod conflicts.

Depending on the source of the problem, it might have caused other issies you are not yet aware of. Worst thing is, changes are backed into your save, so the damage may be irreversible.

By the way, have you limited your FPS to 60? Failing in doing so often leads to scripting errors, and those could snowball into a major issue.

And not to be salty or condescending, but whatever skills you think you have - and in fact may have - do not necessarily translate to Skyrim. Skyrim is a whole new ballgame when it comes to modding. And, as Alex alluded to, continuing on this playthrough is just asking for trouble - and use of the console to complete quests will just cause even more issues, as you will bypass necessary quest triggers.

As far as xEdit, it may show what is causing your issue by showing what mods are in conflict, but it needs you to be experienced in its use to do so and to properly interpret, so it may be of limited use to you right now. However, if you wish to give it a try, see the following from the PINNED TOPIC Helpful Links and References:
