BUG. 'LEVEL UP' text permanently on screen BUG.
Hey, thanks for reading.

I have a favour to ask.

I have just bought a beast of a gaming machine and it's my first 4k system with a 4k monitor. I'm having a rather common (according to Google at least) but irritating issue. The words 'LEVEL UP' are permanently showing up in the game world and won't go away. From Googling, it's either a Skyrim UI or NVidia problem. Here is a pic:

I read that it's to do with higher resolutions, the UI and NVidia, and I followed the recommended fix by removing 'LEVEL UP' from the line in the Translate_English file as recommended here on the Steam forums:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/613938693233749594/

^^ This fix works, but it causes other issues. When you press tab to enter the menu, the words 'LEVEL UP' for the option at the top are gone. When you also his max XP for your level and the bar turns blue and plays the level up sound, the words 'LEVEL UP' are also missing. So, in short, this fix does remove the words from the world screen, but it also removes all other 'LEVEL UP(s)' everywhere else.

The mod available on Nexus is out of date and does the same thing effectively, so it causes the same side effects.

I found an obscure solution on another website, where someone made a custom plugin for another user. I copied the dll file to my data folder and, when that didn't work, I pasted it to my SKSE - Plugins folder instead. That too didn't work. It fixed the scaling issues as shown in the original posters screenshots, but it did not fix my perma-'LEVEL UP' on screen issue . The plugin suggestion is here:

https://github.com/schlangster/skyui/issues/60

I'm desperate. I'm so OCD that playing with either the 'LEVEL UP' on screen, or the removal of the 'LEVEL UP' from the menu, both cause me great irritation. I'm using a 3840 x 2160 resolution on a 28" Iiyama 4k monitor with a 6GB MSI GTX 980Ti Gaming Graphics Card.

Please, does anyone know how to fix this without screwing up the menu?

Thanks for your time.

Any mods? If so post your load order, please. Have you tried it at the resolution the game was designed for 1920x1080? Try taking your skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini out of documents\my games\skyrim folder and then run the game through your Steam Library to create new ones. See if that helps. Have you verified your games master files?

Hey it works at 1920 x 1080, but I was hoping to utilise my monitor/gpus higher specs. I'm not good with computers though, is Skyrim too old to work with these more modern resolutions?

I verified the game files and it did the usual '1 failed and will be reacquired' error.

I have just this second deleted all my mods to do a fresh install to see if they were the culprit.

I haven't tried to remove the two files from My Games\Skyrim.

If the fresh install has the same issue, without mods, I'll try that last point and let you know.

Thanks for your time :).

No need For a reinstall if it is not to late, just make the game vanilla. Make sure you are unsubscribed from all the workshop mods, then follow this guide: http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Make_Skyrim_Vanilla_Again
You can leave in the files for the DLC as well if you have them which I don't think that guide mentions, and if you have the hi res dlcs then you can leave in the third esp and bsa, but otherwise its all set

Ah I unistalled, it's about 5 mins from downloading and installing again though, just the core game and dlcs.

Hey, it still has the same bug with a brand new, fresh install of Skyrim Legendary. I uninstalled all mods manually, even uninstalled Nexus Mod Manager and deleted the folders, deleted everything Skyrim and NMM related, rebooted and reinstalled Skyrim through Steam and the issue persists. I guess the game is just not compatible with the higher resolutions :'(.

The tip deleting the 2nd 'Level Up' in the 'Translate English' file works, it just causes cosmetic side effects :(.

Hey, I found a simple fix finally :D.

Installed SkyUI which fixed the problem instantly. Then, because I liked the vanilla menus, I installed SkyUI-Away, which basically allows you to keep the scaling fixes of SkyUI but removes the new UI layout :D.

Necro update: In your Steam client, go to library, then games, and right click on Skyrim. Go to properties on the bottom, then the local files tab on top. Click on "Verify Integrity of Game Files". It "fixed" an unnamed file and went away (unmodded game).

Thank-you very much, Sinedeus!
All the answers talk about editing files and all kinds of mods problems and I just wanted to play my game I purchased so long ago that everone raves about.
Have a great day!

checking integrety didnt work for me :(. ill try fix it with the previous said with sky-ui
Whenever you see LEVEL UP show on your screen, you need to go back and switch the video dimensions to one that is correct for your monitor/tv. As in my case, every time I update my NVIDIA Graphics card, Skyrim always resets to 3840x2160, which isn't compatible with my setup, thus, the LEVEL UP will show on the screen. Once I leave the game, and go back to the settings and set it to, 1920x1080 or 1824x1026, the LEVEL UP goes away. I hope all this helps!
