The red diamond with a white exclamation point error, please how to fix.
I have been enhancing my recent play-through of skyrim with a huge load of fun mods, everytrhing was going perfectly for hours on end until recently. I loaded the game to see an army of red diamonds with exclamation points in them around me on the walls, in the ground, really all over the place. I recently downloaded falksaar, but that was still a vit ago, my game was completly fine before this, and I would prefer my mods to still be on as I already beat vanilla skyrim tens of times, please how do I fix this issue?

SMIM was the cause for me as well. It somehow got corrupted when I tried to uninstall (which didn't work) then reinstall it (which brought on the new red diamonds/exclamation points). I found that verifying the game cache did NOT work (although I still recommend doing that anytime you have a game glitch). I could not delete SMIM altogether until I went to my MO download (in my Downloads file on my computer) and found the guilty entry: it's a line in a text file ("modlist") automatically generated by Mod Organizer which showed up in each modlist under each of my profiles. I simply deleted the SMIM text entry from each modlist (it ended up in the modlist for the profiles that I hadn't even played during this ordeal). Problem solved without doing anything like re-downloading Skyrim (shudder!).

JUst got finished fixing that same problem. Ihad to delete every single mod. Not disable. Delete. Delete my skyrim/data folder. Verify game integrity via steam, to get data folder back, then redownload, and reinstall mods. It was drastic. I hated it. But nothing short of doing that worked. And I tried. Maybe someone else has a simpler fix. But when I asked, nobody did.

EDIT: Oh, and I had to delete every save file for the character that was the problem.

Yes. But any saves with chars OTHER than the problem, can be reinstituted. Those save files can be saved. The one you're having the problem with cannot.

is there a specific reason this error occured? Is there a place I can go for more infromation?

if its in MO it is usuallly a missing master file hover over the triangle and it will list the required master files(also appears sometime with dual sheath redux i just re run dsr skyproc )

I use NMM, not MO.

This is a weird issue that hasn't happended to me before even though I've been playing with mods for days, I am honestly not very techy or good at file managment without some video or something. Any directing would be appreciated though.
In a way it is mod related. And in a weird way it isn't. The above is correct in that the problem was missing textures. And missing masters. But the missing master was Skyrim.esm. and that was working. If I hadn't had Skyrim.esm the game wouldn't have loaded. So it was more missing textures. And mods were interfering. And I'm not sure it was any mod or mod combo that was doing it. I think it was that I had mods period. Made it vanilla. Put all the old mods back. Recreated char. And the problem hasn't come back.

Ok, so if I go through with deleting my data file, and redownloading all my mods with skyrim, I would need to restart on a new charecter? My old one would be dleted?

I didn't actually try to keep my old saves. So I can't say definitively, "yes" or "no". I didn't want to risk it. But that is up to you isn't it?

Awesome thanks for the information, hopefully I can resolve the issue.

The exclamation mark diamonds represent missing models. From your description of them being everywhere, I'm guessing the vanilla game's files got corrupted. Try deleteing "Skyrim - Meshes.bsa" and then verifying the game.

If that doesn't work, one or more of your mods are installed incorrectly.

I wish you'd been around when I posted about the same problem. If it works yours is a much simpler solution than what I came up with.

What do you mean by verify the game?
