Thane Bug?

I'm having a problem with becoming thane in dawnstar. I've completed the waking nightmare quest, slain a giant, and am lvl 61, but when i talk to the jarl, i don't get any option to talk about being thane. What's going on? Any help would be appriciated!

You seem to have some experience from the game, but I still need to ask. Did you remember to do Favor Quests to peoples of Dawnstar? There are 7 potential favors there.

Thats the thing, the jarl should have a dialouge option for that, like all the others, but doesn't. I have helped about 4 or so people without that quest.

Hmm... UESPWiki does not mention any specific bug there. Something is bugged then.

Make sure that your master files are not damaged and causing a glitch. Save from that, I can only think some script mess with either game or mods.

Well, you did say you were lvl61. Sooner or later, the game will bug at that length.

For llja, am i supposed to delete the appcache? Sorry if i seem stupid.

When it says remove, does it mean delete or move to desktop?

Yep. As explained there, Steam does not actually check your files, but file data against in appcache folder. You can delete it or just clear it.

When you restart Steam (after recommended shut down of your computer), then Steam will notice the data missing, check your files again and create a new appcache folder.

This new folder now contains your up to date game data and Steam makes the file verification check against it, instead of old and possibly very out of date data that it previously held.

You need to buy the house from the Jarl first after solving the nightmares. Then ask the jarl for extra work killing the giant.

Once I had done that just last week I got the option to ask about helping his people with only 1 helped even though I had done at least two of the other jobs on offer.

So do several more giants jobs for the jarl as his jobs seem to count toward becoming thane.
The dawnstar jarl has always been the most buggy.
So definately before handing in a bounty to the dawnstar jarl Do a new hard save and even a restart skyrim to get a better response.

Have you run Skyrim Script cleaner as that will clear out buggy scripts that may be causing your issues. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/52363/?

My jarl is brina. And i did complete the waking nightmares thing. I haven't seen any player houses in dawnstar, is that in the dlc? If not, who do i talk to?

It is a buyable plot that you can build your house, coming from HearthFire DLC.

I dont have hearthfire. Also, i did the validation thing, still no good. And i've done two giant jobs for the jarl.

I see. I naturally thought that you had that DLC, when you were asking about home in that area.

HF adds buyable plots to the Pale, Falkreath and Hjaalmarch. They are not part of the vanilla game.

So what now? Is there anyone i can ask for more jobs, like the giants jobs? What do i do?
