Eltrys killed?
I finished one of the quests and it said to go back and to to Eltrys. The army people were there and tried to recruit me, and Eltrys was dead. How do I finish the quest?

You have to let them arrest you. It will start the next part.

When you first entered Markarth you should have witnessed a murder, after things settle down a little Eltrys gives you a note you are supposed to read. It says you should meet him at the temple.

They didn't try to arrest me. There were only soldiers there.

Those were the city guard and you have to let them arrest you to continue along the questline as stated above. Go back to the autosave where you enter the shrine and restart the dialogue with the guards.

Ok this is stupid, they will not arrest me as I am a Tribune in the Legion.

How it supposedly go down: When you return to him, you find him dead and the corrupt guards attempt to arrest you. You need to get arrested. This is a great time however to level up stuff like Lycantropy and Vampire Lord because the citizens won't be on the streets and you can kill as many guards as you want.


Try to go into an other cell with guards in it like the jarl's palace or the barracks with your weapons sheated.

Do you have a mod that prevents you getting arrested?
Because normally they arrest you no matter what, it's a scripted event, a mod might affect that.
