Frostfall - how do I survive?
I just got Frostfall, and I wanted to go from Solitude to Folgunthur (on Morthal marshes). The problem was, that between those two locations was a huge river (or a bay, I don't really know). I know that swimming increases exposure, and i tried to find another way, but I'd pretty much have to go to Dragon Bridge to get on the other side without ending up all wet. So I found the shallowest part of the river, and crossed through. Of course it wasn't good enough, and soon enough I was freezing. I'd set up a tent and wait a little, but I had a Dragon on my tail (literally, because I'm a Khajiit :D) as well as 2 Frostbite Spiders, so I couldn't stop. I had to cross little puddles a couple of times, but I never had water above my knees. Still, by the time I got to the desired location and found some warm fire, I nearly lost conciousness and was freezing to death. I got warmed up and got inside.
On one hand, for the first time I really felt how cold Skyrim is. That's awesome! But on the other hand, how can I quickly warm myself up in the middle of nowhere? I'm completely new to the modification and don't know much about it. Any ideas?

Ok Jacy, here's a few tips.

Survival 101 Snapdragon style

  1. Carry firewood with you at all times as a backup. This will be a lifesaver at some point.
  2. If you do find yourself out, forage for wood before you become even a little bit cold.
  3. Carry some alcohol for emergencies. This will warm you up for a period, but it'll be much worse afterwards, so make sure you have a fire by then.
  4. Wear a cloak (fur for snowy regions)
  5. Equip a torch when it gets rough, it'll help you a little bit.
  6. If the weather looks nasty, don't go far from a building. It's much easier warming yourself up inside something.
  7. Don't get wet. Roleplay a small furry cat-like animal.

EDIT: Make sure you know where the nearest habitation/cave is, and make sure you can make it there if everything goes wrong.

There are also spells that the mod adds, but you have to find/buy them. Mountain flower tea is in your recipes (added by mod) as well as other teas that will assist in warming. All these are temp fixes so as Snapdragon said always be ready to light a fire.

Oh, right. Forgot to add, when I went out of the water it started raining...

Anyway, I'll keep that in mind. But I have a question. How do i start a fire?

Oh right, no wonder you were asking XD

In your "powers menu" there'll be something along the lines of "Survival Skills", use that, there'll be a little menu pop-up, and then you can select "build campfire".

It'll follow your mouse around and flatten onto the terrain. Then click your "use" button and it'll set down if it's coloured blue.

I think that's right, it's been a while and I haven't used 3.0 yet.

EDIT: Use a linen or cloth cloak when it rains.

The Frostfall MCM has instruction guides in it. Take the time to read them and set your Frostfall Setting accordingly.

Edit: The mod also adds a book to your inventory if I remember correctly.

Gather up 30 Snowberries and make some Snowberry Extract. It lets you swim in freezing water for 30 seconds if you must go through the water.

Awesome! Thanks for the info :)
I do this Snowberry Extract in a cooking pot?

Yep, and read the book too, it's quite nice actually.

You may even have a bonus to your exposure resistance as you're a furry 'lil t'ing.

Actually, if Elseweyr is one-part desert and one-part rainforest, why do khajiit have such thick fur? And then moan about the cold?

My current equipment:
- Hunter Armor
- Hunter Boots
- Heavy Spiked Kite Shield
- Mercenary Gauntlets
- Novice Hood
- Travel Cloak, Linen

Coverage: 191
Warmth Rating: 184

I didn't write any items that I think give any warmth, such as Leather Pouches. Anything I should change here?

Torch. Also bring a fur cloak. If you shave a little you could probably make a decent one.

Are you using the settings where some armours provide more protection than others?

Same way Arabs cover themselves in clothes when in their homelands, where there is 50 grades Celcius in shadow, and then they come to colder countries like Sweden, sit in classrooms in jackets and all, and say it's cold, while I'm sitting there in a T-Shirt and have sweat all over myself

Edit: My bad, it is the campfire mod that has the guides in the MCM. If you are using Frostfall you should also use Campfire. They work great together.

Yes but there's loads of dust and they're human and care about modesty. But I see what you mean.

Oh yeah Frostfall actually requires Campfire. You have got that, right Jacy?
