How do you hunt dragons?

So far I've seen 3 non-quest dragons.
The first one fought me to his death. It was pretty fun.

I found another one yesterday, but it flew away before I was able to reach him. Today I found another one, and this time I was able to reach and attack him -got the red skull on the radar-, but he just went and "said" something while standing in fron of a whirlwind and then flew away, completely ignoring me. :\

I don't recall doing anything special to lure the first one -the one that actually fought me-, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I did some research, and people talk about a shout to make them land. I don't need or want them to land, I'm an archer. I just want them to stop running away.

Some dragons will just run off. A good way to search is by asking Arngier if he knows where any words of power are. The dragon that shouted at the whirlwind was probably Alduin waking up a named dragon, one should have appeared for you to fight. Also, if you see a dragonhead symbol appear on your compass, that will be a dragon location.

Well if u can miss seeing in the sky , i think Dragons is harder to find a human under trees.. but then don't forget your Dragon Shout's is just as loud as the one u hear.. it's like 2 person lost in a jungle shouting and searching for the voices.. and because dragon been attack more then one person ... u have to try go to him but he will also attract to your shouts at the same time.. this is how i play killing 10 Dragons within 2 days... but there's many ways i believe.

Yep, that is a dragon burial mound, should have been one spawned. Do not why one did not show. Do you use any mods? If so did you sort your load order with LOOT? After running LOOT be sure to click on the button in the upper right that says "Sort" when hovered over, then click "Apply" once it appears.

Also, if you see a dragon off in the distance a lot of times you can chase them down. Not the big black one though, that is Alduin. But as I said sometimes they will just fly off, even if you hit them with an arrow.

I'm playing vanilla. Just got the game this week and I'm trying to get to know it a bit before installing any mods.
Perhaps it was a bug. I hope it doesn't affect the quest progress.

how do i hunt dragons:
I have no clue. Seems they just find me every 30sec and start raining down burning hell from the sky then i die. I have no mods altering dragons.

For vanilla your load order should be
dawnguard
hearthfires
dragonborn
official high res packs 1-3 in numerical order

Just skip any files you do not have. And I agree you should play the game a bit vanilla first. This way you know what you want to change, makes choosing mods much easier.

Oh sorry... totally forgot to tell u those.. but as long as the shout's is loud .. i don't think the Dash and Buffing Shout's work's .. i use only one Clear Sky shout probably it's the one u say if it's only cost u 15 , good luck trying!

Omg.. Alduin the bad ass Dragon... Need German Tank's to fight off this Dragon.. sheehhsss.. but anywayit's my fault too .. I took Alduin for Granted because Paarthurnax is there..
