Is getting the Eldergleam sap impossible?

I am trying to get the sap for the Nettlebane mission, but inside of the sanctuary, I think I'm pretty close to it, I can see the arrow right above me. And yet, It seems liekt here is a wall in front of me, no matter what I try, I can't get to it. How can I possibly complete this mission!?

If I remember correctly, the ground slopes upward on the left side by the wall of the cave bringing you up to the level of the tree.

If you find your way is blocked by tree roots, equip Nettlebane and hit the tree roots. They will move out of the way and then you can continue.

Will say this, there are two options to get the sap, but only one option to get to the tree.

You can hit the roots with the Nettlebane blade. Then they will disappear.

Second option is to take man in temple with you and when cleared the way with knife, talk to him he will help you and have less hassles getting out.

Equip the Nettlebane and hit the tree roots. If you play as a good character agree to escort the pilgrim Maurice Jondrelle bring him to the sanctuary, strike the tree roots (not the trunk) to climb the hill, and when you reach the trunk, he'll be horrified that you're planning on cutting the tree and offer you an alternative solution... chose the sap. If you wanna see your sapling grow install the mod Gildergreen Regrown by Arthmoor[www.nexusmods.com]

Okay, I got past the roots, thanks for suggestion of using the Nettlebane. Btw, faced two dragons on way here so the helpful guy from the temple died in the first attack. Second, I am not powerful enough to defeat all three Sprigons, I get past the first one using some potions, heal up, come to tyhe next two, die. Can't get out! Anyone have some advice? I am extremely stuck and swarmed. Please help me get out?

Keep the other fellow alive and use him, then there is no problem after getting to tree.

Best bet is to reload from before he died. Otherwise, bring Lydia (or your companion of choice) and summon a Flame Atronach or two. Use your Fire Breath or Slow Time shouts.

Thought that was obivous to back track a save or two. That if you saved prior dragon attack.

Quick question, how would I do that? I'm somewhat new and I don't fully know how to go back a save or two.

And about that Flame Atronach, tried that, don't have enough magicka turns out.

Foudn how to save, can either start at 3 points in the sanctuary, or back at the very first thing in this entire world.
