Cival War Overhaul - Does it conflict with other Mods?-Solved
I'll be playing my next playthrough with CWO but .....
As I don't know the mod I'm not sure what the mod does to the vanilla game or mod enhancements of cites. In particular, does it interfere with Mods that effect Whiterun like JK's Skyrim or Dawn of Whiterun ... or any other cities that CWO interact with.

Ilja ... I know you've played this CWO Mod .... is it safe to run or do you suggest I leave it to another play through

I also have another question about Breezehome that if anyone who has the knowledge to answer this question may also be able to help with .... Edit ...now solved so please ignore references to it in the answers below

Thank you for any help

Just a little bump ... sorry

CWO is a big mod and can interfer with numorous other mods, I have not used it so I can not answer specifically, this is mainly a bump.

Return to the post re: Breezehome answer is now there.

CWO can work with city overhauls in theory, but, I wouldn't risk it, as it's a big and bugy mod in general, and anything that can in theory work with it, on practice can be a bit messy.

The instructions are for if you have already bought the house. Anything left inside the house will be lost. But you are going to use it on your next playthrough, so install just before your next playthrough, with one small option. If you say ok, here goes with the new option, add the mod then, then click New on the next startup.

The Civil War Overhaul was fun for the short time I used it, but it seemed a little unstable.

If I got too close to some areas with CWO battles I would CTD. I don't know if that was an instability combined with other mods or because my PC couldn't handle the massive battles.

I stopped using it, but really miss the Werewolf mass feedings on both Imperial and Stormcloak troops.

I'd heard (via Ilja) that CWO had been mostly fixed so that's what interested me about using it but I also want this to be one big helluva adventure, taking in all the best that skyrim has to offer.
Very difficult to decide what to do ... my instinct is to say that the rest of the game is more important than one questline and the enhanced cities mods look really good ... yet this questline ( if it has been fixed) is also pivitol to the Skyrim experience.
I never played the quest on my last winters playthrough ... was happy just looking around but on this playthrough I do want to pick a side and join in.

Has anybody played both the CWO mod and the original questline to conclusion. ???
Could you recommend playing the quest as vanilla this time and then taking on CWO at a later date. I've heard the vanilla questline was very badly done but is it enjoyable as it stands?

The thing is ... I don't feel I want to have a lot of different profiles and/or lives playing Skyrim. Just really want to be one character having a long game and experience as much as I can so I want to install everything at the start ... hence this decision on CWO, which must be in at start-up and not installed later.

Thank you all for the advice so far ... still appreciated even if I still can't make my mind up ... ha ha

Little bump because Iija is about ... sorry

Hello. I really had not noticed this thread before.

What comes to your original question, I do not use city overhauls. I only use mesh fixes, custom textures and NPCS, because I try to keep my mods as compatible as possible. CWO and Dawnguard vampire attacks are something to consider, so my towns and cities are as close to vanilla than possible in obstacles. Sadly, I really can not tell how different city overhauls would work.

CWO stability has been increased notably. The early releases were buggy, but in all honestly, Apollo Down never claimed otherwise. He was very open about it and tried to help peoples to bypass problems, while fixing them.

The question of stability comes down to many things. What is certain is that CWO fixes multiply bugs from vanilla civil war. Several of those bugs could lead to broken quests, CTDs or other oddities in game. In that sense, well managed game that does not have to many mods creating exceptions of AI behaviour should run at least equally well compared to vanilla civil war, or better.

I have finished civil war in vanilla (3 times) and with CWO (2 times). If you have not experienced vanilla Civil War, then perhaps it would be best to start with that. It is quite simple and straightforward.

CWO gives plenty of variety, but it also adds to difficulty. Especially Whiterun battle is very hard from defenders point of view. Stormcloaks only need to claim the bridge to win. Fighting against soldiers, rogues, trained wolves and maybe even giant is not a summer picnic.

Things will get easier after that and out of mission combat often counts to enemy losses, making wandering around Skyrim more fun, for the CW point of view.

But, as said, some of the events are still difficult. I spent a good portion of my day beating endless horde of enemies in Dawnstar and probably won with pure luck.

Vanilla war is straightforward, quite easy and does not reserve too much playing time, but neither it grants any (CW) related benefits of using extra time to it.

CWO is far from straightforward, can get quite hard and reserves much more playing time, but grants benefits for spending extra time to it.

That is really all I can tell you. Hopefully that helps you to make your decision.

If you havent played it, try not to talk about potential compatibility unless you have a really in depth understanding of what the mod does and how it does it. You end up misleading people because all they real is "it interfears with mods" and thats all they absorb and they dont pay attention to the fact that you aren't talking from experiance.

No buggier then the vanilla civil war. If you arent experianced with v4 of the mod, please dont talk about bugs.

Anyway, thats all I really wanted to contribute, Ilja covered the rest of it fairly well

Yes it has Ilja ... thank you very much for taking the time to reply.

I must go with vanilla Civil War this time .... my fighting technique often involves running around in a panic, swiping at air ... so maybe neither side will actually want me !!

No .... Have an immersive Skyrim this time without the risk of mod conflict .....
Next time do iNeed, Frostfall and CWO
Again ... thank you Ilja ... your patience never ceases to amaze me.

P.S. .... have you written any Mods yourself?

Good point, will be more careful with my wording.

Not for Skyrim. I have modded other games, but decided to "take a break."

Break may be over. I can no longer keep my hands off from ENB settings and I am seriously planning of making my own perk overhaul.

So many peoples have moved to Fallout 4 that Skyrim feels "finished" for that part. That is of course not true. Many modders are still active with Skyirm and has declared staying so, at least until TES VI arrives. Still, it somehow feels that now I know what we have here and can work with it.

All depends on my work situation. I am currently without full day job and spend my time with eventing studies and odd jobs. I have time in my hands. If that changes, then I don't probably have plenty of time, if I intend to keep studying at the same time.

It would be fun ... in the future ... to see what someone of your experience would make for Skyrim.
I only found this game last year ... it is the first of this type/genre I've ever played. I think I landed on my feet when I found Skyrim and this community. I expect to be here for quite a few years ... so I can wait for your Mod Ilja .... (Make running around in circles and attacking thin air a perk line ... I'll be up to 100 within 10 quests)
