How to survive with nothing in Frostfall & Hunterborn?
So I've just started my RP (hooray) and I'm stuck in the (thankfully warmer) hold of Falkreath. A necromancer killed a deer and then ran off, so I have a food source, and a sharp rock, and now a bone hunting knife.

I've got enough food, and temperature is fine, but how am I supposed to stay hydrated?
Help me, please! Before my RP ends before it's really begun...

P.S. there's a stream near me but I'm not sure how (if possible) I can drink from it.
P.S. I now have an empty waterskin too.

Yes, you can drink from water sources by pressing B (maybe not default, I forget) when standing slightly in water. However, it is no fun unless you also have Realistic Needs and Diseases installed as it give a % chance you will get sick when drinking straight from streams/rivers/pools like that. There is a method to ensure healthy water, read details about mod, not sure you want me to just tell you but it is realistic and common sense.

You can also refill waterskin by same method, check default keys.

It is possible to make primitive bow and arrows....

iNeed is another option for food, drink and sleep requirements, plus it has options for diseases and so on. It is more up to date than RN&D, although I know a lot of people still use RN&D and reckon it still works fine. I find iNeed more compatible with other mods, and generally I prefer how it works in-game.

Another option (although ideally you'd need to restart again) is Complete Alchemy and Cooking Overhaul (which has patches for Hunterborn and I think for Frostfall also) which, well, completely overhauls cooking and alchemy. It has an optional (very, very basic) 'hunger and fatigue penalty' system, or if you leave that toggled off, it's fully compatible with iNeed (not sure about RN&D). It changes, well, pretty much everything about food, adds new foods, drinks, cooking recipes, optionally you need to improve your cooking 'skill' (separate from the vanilla trees) to unlock better recipes and make food which has longer-lasting effects. It also does a TON of stuff to the alchemy system. It's well worth checking out.

(Edit as I just re-read the PSs - If you have a waterskin then I'm guessing you already installed iNeed or RN&D, I'm not sure if iNeed lets you collect water from streams, I've a feeling it might not - there should be info in the 'guide' section of the MCM on this.)

Ah, fair enough then, I must've missed that last time I used Hunterborn, or didn't realise it was from that as I already had iNeed.
Deleted, as I might have been mistaken, checking now.

Edit: It does not appear as if Hunterborn or Frostfall adds waterskins. :(

:steamfacepalm:

Sorry, messed up again with my information.

I have iNeed. There are no powers or anything to do with drinking in there.
Realistic Needs and Diseases is what I use, enjoy it greatly and it is completely tweakable by using simple sliders. It will allow you to drink from water sources directly if you desire. It also adds food spoilage rates as well as drunk affects rates from alcohol.

I have no experience with Ineed.

I do not know how to post a picture here, but you can see the MCM menu for RN&D here;

From the mod description, waterskins can be filled by the following methods:

Purchased from an innkeeper or from any random traveler with a filled waterskin in their inventory (requires Wet and Cold).
Requested from an NPC that you've become friendly with (done quests for) in an interior.
Collected from any upright bucket or kettle out in the open when it's raining.
Collected from any open wells, water barrels or water kegs. Water barrels and kegs can be crafted at a forge or bought from general goods merchants. They will never disappear unless disassembled so feel free to construct them in/outside your home or for your favorite NPCs.
Collected in the form of snow, at most bodies of water (SKSE 1.7.2+) or the base of waterfalls by using the 'Drink/Refill Hotkey' or by clicking on an empty waterskin.

Apparently some water mods may interfere with the snow/bodies of water part - check the MCM for the 'drink/refill hotkey', you probably have to configure it yourself.
Which mod description is that? I know I can collect snow to melt into water with the one I use, but been a long time since I read the "manual" :)

Just realised I forget, it also lets you milk cows...

There is a new version of RND found here:
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68982/?

I've been playtesting this version, thus far, no issues and works just like I wanted from the original. From my understanding, Perseid9's been gone quite some time and made his mod public domain, so this lad picked it up.

It uses the same .esps as well, so any patches original RND users may have will carry over without complaint. Finally, some bugs that were minor but present in RND, have finally been looked at and fixed by the new guy.

I dislike that the new version removed snow and rain as water sources. His/her logic for doing so is not sound.

That's fair, I'm just putting it out there since people still believe RND as a mod, is dead, which is not quite true anymore.

On my stable playthroughs I'm using RND 1, this one profile has 2.0. I'm avoiding iNeed because that bug page looks mighty annoying and nothing seems to be being solved or even looked at.

That was from the iNeed description, I wouldn't have posted it if it was from RN&D as you said you're using iNeed, and I don't use RN&D. It's always worth checking mod descriptions carefully before installing and if you have issues once playing.

(Just want to make it quite clear, btw, if you want to switch to RN&D you will need to start a new game.)

Gnewna - I think you have me confused with OP :)

*checks* Yes, apparently I do! Well, in that case, it was from the iNeed description, I wouldn't have posted it if it was from RN&D as OP says they're using iNeed ;)
