Bigger spoiler but with minimal details as to the type of thing it relates to it's for a - fairly short -Daedric quest
Bethesda also intended to do a follow up quest after the Blade was acquired, it involves Balgruuf's kids basically being brainwashed by mephala and killing him. They cut it mainly because it DRASTICALLY alters the Jarl status for the Civil War and Season Unending quests in regards to Whiterun and the story itself sounds dark as f**k (his kids commiting Regicide + Patricide would piss off the censorship boards to the point where a Witcher 2 style censored version of Skyrim would have to be made if Bethesda never cut it and SCREW THAT!) plus Arthmoor is still tied on whether he can restore it or not in his Cutting Room Floor mod.
