Access to Fort Dawnguard

Why cant I continue past the overhead walkway{near Vigilant of StendarrTower} on the road east of Riften to the fort. I keep getting the "You cannot go that way" message. Is there another way to get to the fort {its still a black icon on my map}

Turn around head back toward Riften, first cave on the right near a fallen log.

I made the same error back when I first got Dawnguard, and when I was new to it, the quest marker was all sorts of wrong. Like the cursor was at Stendarr's Beacon, not the cave. Thanks Bethesda.

Took me forever to find the cave. Actually found it by accident.

Yeah in my DLC version the quest marker was on the actual fort icon. But when i started down the road from Stendarr tower i got attacked by a vamp.and during the fight I saw the cave but there wasn't even a map icon so I planned to investigate it later. And when I continued down the road to the fort I hit the dead end.There are still a lot of bugs in this game and I'm always searhing the workshop for patch/fixes, etc. Thats the best thing about Bethesda's products. The ability for users to change/correct/create content. Without this diverse aspect I would not be a long-term participant in their games.
