Average levels in a thorough playthrough?
What are the average levels people are reaching in a thorough playthrough? Doing as many quests as possible and not grinding repeatable ones? Pre-legendary, the max level was 81st? Post-legendary, it's possible to max every tree, reach 1000 health, stamina, and magicka (level 270ish), but do people really grind repeatables enough to do that? So, I'm curious, what levels do most reasonable players reach in a playthrough?

I've been playing quite a while and had quite a few playthroughs!
Some which crashed due to mod conflicts!
Now with better mod management and only playing things that interest me my character is at level 75 only started Winterhold (mage )quests Still have all Companion quests all Dragonborn and Dawnguard to go. Add in mods like Wrymstooth , Moonpath to Elsewhere, Falskaar, Sea of Ghosts, Sorcery...and so many others!

So I could easily get to level 150 if that interested me, which it doesn't! I could get more levels by using legendary system to keep leveling but I haven't done that either! If your whole concentration is on doing levels you'll feel like your grinding... and then you are and yep that then becomes boring!

So what it comes down to is your play style.... Are you in a rush.. do you feel like you need to quickly get this ...fast travel everywhere just to say you've done it!

Try something different on a quest try to escort the person you need to meet in riften... all of a sudden you need to defend a poor npc ...now that is hard work, cos they will try to help with their bare hands against Giants!
An example of that in the civil war you can get them all to meet at High Hrothgar! So escort them and see either general Tullius and his team in action ,or Ulfric and yes walk / run along the roads with them!
That's you playing the game and then you'll get to enjoy it so much more

I just like to play and any new modded lands new quests ...with there being so many that you may never finish! Add mods like Interesting Npcs where all over skyrim are new npcs that add depth and culture and complexity and new quests it becomes a never ending story.

So to sum it up it's a journey how you choose to travel along the road is your choice!
So choose wisely

The reason I'm asking is to get a good idea what an average level for a reasonable playthrough would be. The character leveling has turned me off, as it seems to favor jack of all trades vs specific class builds. At least that's how I'm normally tempted to build my characters, working every skill that is available. I imagine it's going to be difficult to get a decent average, as in just a few posts, I'm seeing people range from the 20s to 150ish. Assuming I take every skill to 100 and don't opt the skills to become legendary, I'd be 81st level, I think, and that seems a reasonable level to still have a semi-unique character build. I'd like that much better than being a master of every possible class, so I'd just have to restrain myself and not take skills to legendary levels.

Edit: Also, I haven't taken any characters very far, as I think you have to be at least 50th level to get the higher tiers of unique items. Please correct me if I'm wrong here, as I really don't want lesser teir rewards for the unique items.

You could always try a mod that changes the perk trees like SkyRe or S.P.E.R.G. I'm using the latter right now and I don't think my character will have to start branching out till about level 50.

I think pretty much all quest reward items do scale to level so it is a good idea to hold off on getting them I suppose.

I pick five skills to level at start. Those five skills get all the perks for the first 25 or 35 levels, and they define the character. It seems to work pretty well, and I do not get a jack of all trades. By level 45 or 50 a character tends to be more jack of all trades, but it's so powerful by then it doesn't really matter all that much. ;)

eta: if you level up smithing and enchanting from the start, you'll usually make better equipment than you can find at every level.

depends on how you play , a pure mage all 5 schools should be around 40ish
my archer was 38 when i was done doing most of the progression. but if you want to knwo for yourself. hit google and search for perk calculator skyrim that way you can get a general idea of the level you will need to get your build done and finish the game

I am doing a Jack of all trades. I've played through the Companions, Dark Brotherhood, Winterhold quests, about 7 Daedric quests, some side quests, and am currently in the Thieves Guild. She is Thane of 5 holds. The build is leverl 42 now. She still has the Civil War, the Main quest, Dawnguard, Dragonborn, Moonpath to Elsweyr, Wyrmstooth, and the questlines for Interesting Npcs left to do. I have no idea what level she'll be at when she finishes, but probably somewhere in the 60s. I have a mod that SLOWS down leveling by 2x, she doesn't grind skills, though she did start training at around level 30 to help with skills that were not advancing as fast. Her skills are one-handed, two-handed, archery, block, heavy armor, light armor, and conjuration. Her build isn't quite done yet, some perks are left in each tree.

I range about 30-40 for a playthrough. By that time I've roleplayed the ♥♥♥♥ out of the character. Meaning any quest for him or her is pretty much done and I'm tired of the same old built. So I pick a skill or 5 to focus on, choose a skill or two I won't use no matter what because they break character and I choose a weapontype. For example by barbarian only wore light armor, I used modded armor that removed the cuirass :P His weapon of choice were two-handed axes so I used no swords or hammers. I did use a bow every know and then because range is good. I didn't enchant or used healingspells because magic is scary and dangerous. I also slain any elf that had an attitude.

It's interesting that you've mentioned that, I have found that my Jack of all trades was one of the most unique builds I've ever done; concieved as a weapons expert. But she had some interesting gimps that has made playing her extremely rewarding. No crafting, no fast travel, she HAD to wear faction armor or robes of each faction she was in, even if better stuff was already found. When she was in the Mage's college, she wore the Necromancer's amulet, which seriously hindered her health and stamina. There are skills she cannot use; the crafting skills, pickpocket or sneak (now that made the TG and the DB very interesting), and any of the magic schools other than conjuration. For other rmagic schools, she used scrolls and staves, except for what was required by quests. She actually had to learn Frostbite at Mzulft. :D The girl had a dead thrall, but didn't know Frostbite.

It's level 46+ for some things, I think Chillrend and the Knightingale gear. One of the first mods I ever downloaded in Skyrim was a level eliminator for the leveled unique items. I really had problems with the shield of solitude or Chillrend being worth more and better when the game was easier in all honesty. Your build is way stronger by then and Potema's just awful for a low-level character. If you can beat her at level 10, you deserve the shield at full power rather than grinding levels to beat her at level 30+, where it is actually easier. IMO, those artifacts should've been at a fixed level. It doesn't effect many items in the game, but you are no longer pressured to postpone quests.
