Then let Barbas live if you don't like the axe. Which decision you make doesn't affect how you play, but choosing the Masque does go towards the Oblivion Walker achievement that's earned after collecting all the Daedric Artifacts. Besides, you don't have to actually use the Artifacts if they're not exactly your forte; just use them as decoration for a house or store them someplace.
Barbas is evil, but does that mean he should die. I am a loremaster of the Elder Scrolls. I have studied every person and their life in the Elder Scrolls. I have studies everything there is to study. It would be wise listen to my advice, as lore is more important than gameplay. Clavicus Vile is a Daedric Prince, and he is evil. Barbas is also evil, about 1000 years before the Dragon Crisis, Barbas was attempting to siphon Vivec's power to give to Clavicus Vile, so that he could crush all who oppose him. I use this example because it is one people who have played the Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind will know. Barbas is evil, but the only way a Daedra can be killed is to kill them in both Nirn and their plane of Oblivion. However, Barbas is not technically an individual Daedra. Barbas is a conscious manifestation of Clavicus Vile's power. Clavicus Vile needs Barbas, and so, if you kill Barbas, Clavicus Vile will remain weak until he brings Barbas back, as it is an essential part of him. The reconstruction processs of a Daedra is extremely painful. By killing Barbas, all you really do (though it is not know for sure if this will happen) is cause a great deal of pain. But, do not be swain by Barbas' appearance. He takes on a form more evil directly proportional with Vile's power at the time. His true form is something heinous. All of this said, it is not about killing Barbas that matters, it is giving the axe to Clavicus. Though Clavicus has actually had his weapon stolen before, this axe has little importance to him. Therefore, the least evil thing you can do is kill Barbas, and delay Vile's restoration of power. Ysmir Dragonborn is much more powerful than most Daedric Prince lorewise (after defeating Alduin), and after defeating Miraak, is second only to Godheads. When the Last Dragonborn dies, his spirit will likely ascend into an omnipotent being, known as Dovahkiin. So, you see, killing Barbas will put you, the player in no harm; however, if the Last Dragonborn uses magic to let him live longer than a century or so, than he will not have ascended into an omnipotent being yet. (by the way, the only thing that makes sense is that the Last Dragonborn is a Nord, so that is what I am assuming him to be) Even so, Miraak would have been deffeated by then, nothing could stand in your way, you could stop any plot of Vile's. You could probably even do it even if you gave him Barbas and he planned something right away. All this said, it sort of does not matter what you do. Ifyou want to play it safe, kill Barbas.

You left out 'learn to use paragraphs'.

We need a daedric prince of grammar.

I would like to volunteer for said position. I remember some time ago, there was a thread about what you would rule over as a Daedric Prince. At first, I said nihilism, but that would be pointless. My second thought was cynicism, but I doubt I'd deserve that title. So, Daedric Prince of Grammar it is.

We also need a Daedric Prince of stop necroing threads that are 5 freaking years old. Kind of a cumbersome title, I'll admit.
