Reset to Vanilla Textures
I need some help. Is there a method of restoring the game's default texture set for terrain/world?
I installed the Tropical Skyrim mod from the Nexus manually, and have since decided I wanted to turn it off. I un-installed Skyrim, and did a fresh install seeing as there was no Mod manager to help me out there. This reset ALMOST everything. Currently, a lot of the terrain and buildings/holds are still sand-textured. And some palm trees and the tropical birds are still left, though I've disabled the mod in the launcher, and clean installed the game. Any advice?

did you manually delete the skyrim folder in your steam/steamapps/common folder. if not the textures from the mod would still be there.

go into that folder find the textures folder and delete it. verify the game cache and the game should download any files that are needed.

If I delete the "textures" folder, will the game just auto download the missing files, or will I have to re download the game? Also, I have some armor and weapons mods and stuff installed, will this affect those? Should I go into the Nexus Manager and disable/uninstall the mods before doing something?

I am not exactly sure where Nexus stores its files. MO stores its files outside the skyrim folder. that is what I use.

You may have to reinstall the nexus mods you want.

simply validating the game cache will reinstall the original files. so after deleting the texture meshes and other folders that are affected it should be the vanilla files shown after validating.

personally I have good download speed and unlimited so I would uninstall the game and then manually delete the skyrim folder and the mydocs/mygames/skyrim folder before reinstalling and then reinstall the nexus mods you do want.

it is up to you but sometimes starting fresh is the easiest and quickest method to get back to playing.

Yeah, that's what I guessed. I "Deleted Local Content", and then navigated to the steam/steamapps/common folder and deleted everything else, so I could have a fresh install COMPLETELY this time. Before trying this, I deleted the textures and meshes and revalidated the game cache, and it only re downloaded 3 small files. So when I loaded the game, it was just a solid textureless menu. So, I just deleted the whole folder like i said above, and am currently reinstalling the game. We'll see where this gets us.

I think Skyrim uses BSA files for vanilla textures.

Many mods use loose files that take priority over BSA files. Deleting the textures can work, but it is safer using a mod manager that creates a virtual folder so files can be safely removed.

If you plan to mod again I suggest using a mod manager.

Thats what I am doing now, but my problem was I installed tropical skyrim manually. That means that files were still around from when I WASNT using it. like a gibbon lol.
Mod managers from now on! haha

Im not really doing any heavy mods anyway. Just some nicer looking weapons, armor and such for general immersion.
