Does anybody use scrolls?
Occured to me last night, I don't think I've ever used a scroll since I bought this game in a playthrough, always either rely on a magic spell or good old-fashioned weapons. Have got a chest full of them in my house which I've hoarded over time and just never get the urge to use them.

Does anybody use these regularly in their playthrough, if so whats the benefit to using them as opposed to a hand-cast spell. Am I missing some great way of fighting enemies in combat by not using them.

Only in Requiem. That and the spider spells from Dragonborn but yeah, never really used them.

Scrolls in TESV are kind of weak. Only way to get them is to buy or find them, unless you are creating them in Atronach Forge. By the time you end up creating them is when you already have enough power to cast most relevant spells.

I usually buy few summoning scrolls for my charactes, to be used in a thight spot, but otherwise I have not found any practical use to them.

Hmm... now that this came up, I might as well see what modders have come up with them.

Takes too much time with the hand waving and all, when I need magic I can't wait. Except Jzargo's in Labyrinthian. Have Jzargo up when gate opens Go in pop it and then go Etherial and run to the other end and clean up with the bow. Almost always get 3 fried. You can't resist, can you?

I've only ever used J'zargo's flame cloak scrolls, and I usually only use the one, when serana is following me, so she takes the effect of the scroll 3 times.

They cost way to much with no reward, you use it then that's it you don't learn the spell and its gone after several seconds. It's much better to buy actual spells and use them then buy scrolls and then never use them again. Cost > Reward

I also don't use scrolls apart from those of J'zargo for the obvious reason.

Theoretically, scrolls could be useful when you're at the stage where high level spell tomes aren't available yet.

Although, high level scrolls are presumably also rare during those lower character levels, so...

It'd be a bit different if everything wasn't damage orientated and stuff like picking locks was still actually hard (well, relatively speaking, anyway). Consider an "Open Very Hard Lock" scroll in Oblivion - you'd find a use for that, sure enough, assuming you didn't have foreknowledge about game breakers like the skeleton key!

The only scrolls I've ever used (outside of J'zargo's) are high power scrolls like Blizzard (to start a battle off before being detected), and Mass Paralysis, which is REALLY useful in situations where you KNOW things are about to get serious and you need a moment to escape or kill everything (like that quest in the Dark Brotherhood with the poison root. Every time I've done it, while I was waiting for it to work I had a paralyse scroll up, and when everything hit the fan, BOOM, instant escape)

I've earned a lot of money selling them.

I have used every single one that I get, minus guardian circle and raise dead. Idk I used them in multiple boss fights.
