Dragons fly away, never come back
When i get a dragons hp down to 50%-20%, it just vanishes and never comes back, it will remain on my compass for a certain amount of time with the combat music still playing, i am either forced to wait 10-20m for it to return or it will disappear completety. currently using deadly dragon mod.

Do you have the Dragonrend shout? If you do, use it. If not, get it.

I have noticed this on ocassion myself. When they fly off they land somewhere to regen health. You have the chioce to run after them and hope you find them, or run the other way to a distance that will get rid of the red enemy/combat dot. If you weaken them enough before they can fly off they most often do the belly crash landing thing.
chase it

Btw, if you have the dragonrend, use it on him on the ground to keep him there.

When a dragon gets below 50% health, it's forced to land. If there're no suitable landing spots nearby this involves flying away at full speed to the closest place it can touch down. If that spot happens to be a "runway" then the dragon'll crash land along it.

Most dragon nests have a suitable spot right next to them, but especially around Solstheim, this may not be the case. It becomes more of a problem when facing dragons in mountainous terrain.

For anyone else searching Google for "skyrim dragon flies off". I've had the same issue without any mod that adds scripts or modifies dragons. Sometimes it seems they just leave the fight and escape.

And why is that an issue? A lot of enemies will suffer a morale failure and run off if they suffer a bunch of damage, why should dragons be any different? It would be the sensible thing to do if some creature is getting the crap beat out of them.
