Probably because your sneak skill is low. Invisibility and muffle make it a lot harder for them to detect you but you may still get detected if your sneak is at a low level.

also watchout for dragons shourts that npc activate you anyway. even kids says whoa are you a wizard
they detect cast magic

there is a mod with not activate guard on shourts, not sure that kids has a fix yet ?

Kids can.. be disposed of.. I learned yesterday, or the day before. Non-Essential Children - Hearthfire-13202-10-0.zip and that is always a big plus in games! Havn't tried it yet, as I haven't had time.

nice to know. it was longtime ago i ran into that issue .. just great to be discover while cast magic in sneak.

@Meathor
cant help you sneak has always worked , only those 2 odd rare case's can break it

and you are sure you have not make it a lengendary skill and skill tree is reset to beginning again. we have seen this so many times with other skill that people have pressed spacebar on.

( ofc you are, but if you did then it make sense why you cant sneak )

i did it longtime ago on legendary smithing and could not craft my dragon armor first suit or something like that...lol

Simply having your hands held out with a spell equipped produces sound and light. This won't break the invisibility spell, but it will allow NPCs to detect you. Quiet Casting deals with that in addition to the sounds you make when you actually cast things (you still see/hear them - NPCs don't).

Muffle enchants you create yourself are at 100% power (no matter what soul you make them out of, or at which skill level you do so). Muffle enchants found on random loot tend to be lower. "Silent Movement" should remove all need to use Muffle via spells/enchants at all.

NPCs can see you when you're invisible (and you'll notice that on those few occasions where they use it, you can see them). It's like a 90% chameleon effect, if you're familiar with that from the previous TES games. It becomes a lot harder for them to find you if they aren't looking for you, however. Having the Quiet Casting perk is far more important than actually being able to turn invisible (especially at 100 sneak, where the Shadow Warrior perk allows you to turn invisible on a whim).

If you attack an NPC or otherwise give them cause to look for you, they'll start out by running straight at the spot where you were when you performed that action. This doesn't mean they've found you. They will, however, very likely find you if you're still there when they get within a few meters. Cast your spell or whatever, then sneak-run at least ten meters away or something. Activate Shadow Warrior if the NPCs change path to chase you, then sneak-run another ten meters away from that spot too.

Shadows matter. Stay within them.

i´m aware of all that. yet still, without my spells and weapon drawn enemies detect me when I get in a 3 meter radius and then stick to my back as if i was a magnet, regardless of how far im away from the initial detection point.

FWIW, some enemies have better detection skills than others. I have no idea what decides it, but I imagine it relates to level.

I suggest going back to Bleak Falls Barrow (you know, the very first dungeon you probably went through after escaping Helgin), and see what things are like there.

are you done with thief guild and DB guild .... they do matter here, right stones and abilities ?
my warrior is also a master in this first playthrough charecter

my warrior is actual that good that guards cant find me. even then they run into me.

well, thanks, will try that
KiraTsukasa Jan 3, 2016 @ 7:25am
Muffle spells and enchantments don't negate 100% of sound. The spell negates 50% of sound and the enchantment 25%. It's still possible to generate sound and have them notice you, even while sneaking. Like others have said, spell casting creates sound as well, so you will need the Quiet Casting perk to negate this. But having a spell in hand does NOT produce light or sound that is capable of breaking stealth, only casting or channeling it does. Also, the sneak tree alone isn't enough for perfect stealth. Without sneak enchantments, it's actually not all that effective.

If all of that is fine, check your mods. Saying "I don't have mods that affect sneak" doesn't mean anything. I once had an armor mod that changed my Detect Life spell to French, even though it had absolutely NOTHING to do with that spell. One unclean mod can cause unrelated things to break.

You are likely using values from some mod.

Maximum Muffle effect magnitude is 1.0. This can be achieved with Muffle Spell, any boots you have enchanted yourself with this enchantment, or by highest tier Nightingale boots. In this magnitude, armour does not provide any noise.

The perk Muffled Movement provides magnitude of 0.5. Perk Silence provides magnitude of 1.0.

Muffle Magnitude 1.0 and Invisibility should make the character completely undetectable.
