How do I get a horse to stop following me?
Everywhere I f***ing go, some stupid horse keeps following me but I don't wanna kill him. How do I just tell him to go take a hike and leave me alone.

I've told the Stormcloak soldiers that some stupid horse keeps stalking me but they just tell me "No lolligaggin".

That's indeed the easy way to sort it out. Takes a while if the horse in concern is Shadowmere.

(Shadowmere respawns, by the way, at the place of death.)

A less violent method is to get the Summon Arvak spell, in the Soul Cairn during the Dawnguard questline. You "own" the last horse you rode, so only that horse follows you... but Arvak can't, because he tends to despawn the moment you get off him.

He's such a good horse.

I'm not actually aware of any other method to stop horses following you, short of console commands or mods. I haven't had to look into those myself.

Wish I had that problem. My horses always run away.

I disabled him once and he re-appeared to me after I fast traveled to Solitude for a quest. Weird...

Use a horse mod, like Convenient Horses or Immersive Horses. Both of them have a feature that allows you to disable the following feature, whistle horse back to you, build a herd (addon to CH, feature of IHO) and use horse inventory.

I will step in to say that vanilla horse management feature is lacking and having a horse without inventory is silly.

And if you play with mods like Campfire, Frostfall, Realistic Needs and Diseases 2 and Hunterborn, then having either a horse or a follower as a pack mule is almost mandatory.

Edit: No, I do not call Lydia as ponygirl. Perish the thought.
At least not in front of her face. :p

Althoug she might like it more than being called as a "mule."
