Except the helmet. Goofy light sthalrim helmet was the very reason why I installed Helmless Warrior mod to my game - like so many others did.
Thieves Guild armor is enchanted by default, when you get it. The follow up armors are my personal favourites, outside of craftable armors.
No wonder, because my characters are usually thieves of some sort.
For Hoarding there are other ways to be able to carry more or to sell what you want. You should be aware though that carrying half of skyrim around with you does make the game more buggy. As Skyrim has to remember every item that has changed postion and where it is now. Also everytime you go through a load door it needs to load everything that is in your inventory. So if you carry a lot less your game may load faster and play better!
The main difference that comes to mind is that light armour can have you dodge attacks, and heavy can mitigate fall damage. Both perk trees make armour of their type weightless eventually, and so on. The difference between Fur and Daedric ends up being mostly cosmetic.
So in regards to opening up the options further, I quite like this mod:

Not only does it cover the "invisible helmets" thing, but it lets you craft unenchanted versions of any special items you've earned throughout the course of the game (meaning you can create custom versions with the specific effects you want).
No, not even if you join the guild.
the deathbrand light armour is epic; it offers good protection and has bonus perks if you have all four peices.
If you like being a magey warrior - like a spellsword you can wear anything.
... speaking of which, did anyone else feel guilty when Karliah gave them "permission" to wear their Nightingale armour around the guild at last? You know, quite some time after you probably started wearing it everywhere?
It does seem strange, I guess that may be her way of trying to tell you wearing the nightingale armor in the thieves guild is okay ... but not acceptable to wear it officially outside unless using it to sneak some fabulous treasures!
Pity that there is no dialogue to have both Karliah and Brynolf contribute to funding a newly reconstructed Nightingale Hall.
I do like that thieves hand over gold if you use the nightingale dialogue when you get it!
