Recommended Mods
I bought this game like eight years ago and have tried on three different occasions to get into it and have never been able to. I want to give it another try and was curious which mods people recommend.

My goal is to have as few mods as possible, and really only install mods that most people consider absolutely essential. I'm mainly interested in quality of life mods, not really anything that changes core mechanics, adds new skills, etc.

The only mod I know for sure I'm going to use is the map mod that adds roads and things to the map, other than that I'm not sure.

Any help would be appreciated, I'd like to finally get into this game and do a full playthrough.

i consider no killmoves the most important mod to have. killmoves ruin combat as they decide when a fight ends, don't even need to aim attacks, sometimes it's useless too because enemy can dodge spells or arrows even in the cutscene

also get some texture mods from nexus. i like the noble skyrim mod

thanks for the recommendations
SKYUI is recommended if not using a controller. Unofficial Skyrim Patch fixes countless bugs. There are many texture/visual effects mods on the nexus as pudge mentioned. Static Mesh Improvement Mod is a classic. Immersive HUD - iHUD allows you to toggle HUD elements. aMidianBorn Book of Silence is a high-resolution texture replacer. Just be careful if you aren't using skyrim special edition as most mod authors stopped supporting OG skyrim.
